Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga, keyboard & trackpad "disonnect" randomly

95% of the time I start up my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga, some event or other triggers the disonnection or disabling of the keyboard and trackpad. ONLY the touchscreen will work. SOMETIMES but not always, a message "auto rotate now disabled" will appear (even though I've disabled that setting in settings). I've tried to disarm and disable ANYTHING that even HINTS that this device is a 'two in one' because I THINK that's the problem...the device is getting a message (erroneously) that I want it to convert to tablet mode. (But tablet mode is NOT enabled when I look at the notification area where all the basic settings are) -- sometimes it happens WITHOUT the autorotate message. I suppose it could be a faulty connection in the hinge but I don't know where to start for troubleshooting. It's about 6 years old and really is amazing otherwise (i7, 256G SSD, capacitive pen, etc.) so I don't want to junk it but this is getting ridiculous. The process is that I startup, start working, keyboard suddenly disables, I have to hold the power button down until it shuts off, then start again. Usually the SECOND start does it. It won't happen again. I should note, 'restarting' or 'rebooting' does not work. ONLY forcibly shutting down and then starting fixes it temporarily.

Welcome to PCHF hotwired,

It could be a loose ribbon from the keyboard to the MB.

Have you tried connecting a USB keyboard to see how that behaves.
