Lenovo L340 slow internet speeds

I have a Lenovo L340 gaming laptop which is unable to download more than 25mbps when connected to the wifi-network.

I've tried using a Plexgear wireless wifi-antenna adapter with no luck. It even makes the download slower, down to around 17mbps. The adapter communicates on the 2.4ghz band.

As soon as I connect the laptop directly to the router with a cable it goes to my ISP delivery speeds which is 500mbps.

I've updated both the laptop and Plexgear wifi-drivers.

I get normal and expected results when testing the wifi signal and download-speeds with my phone at the same location my laptop is placed. There are significant differences between the two. My phone will have up to 300mbps, while my laptop will go as low as between 17-25mbps.

The laptop is usually placed about 3-4 meters from the wifi-router and no obstacles in between. The router also stand in an elevated position with no obstructions around.

I forgot to mention that my network settings is set in bridge mode through a D-link Covr mesh-system. The ISP router is a modern router from 2020. I have set up the network so the Covr work as a bridge. When I access the ISP router setup page I can see that the laptop is connected to the 5Ghz band. I am not able to change this in the router page either.

I expect the speed to be slower than ISP delivery but expecting a loss of 200mbps - tops, not end result down in the 25's...

The wifi adapter is just 2.4 ghz. Not dual band. When I unplug the adapter from the laptop so that it uses its internal wifi it connects to the 5ghz band on the router. That might be the reason for slower speeds when connecting the adapter, that they are on different bands?

I have not been able to change the duplex-settings. The adapter have been returned to the store for further investigation regarding slow laptop-speeds in general. I would like to fix the laptop issue first, before buying another adapter.

The modem is a router connected to the wallsocket. I can connect to the router directly through cable, and it shows full speed on download. I am hesitant to test the same using wifi, as my stationary computer is important and I don't want to mess up the network configuration as it is working perfectly on the stationary, but somehow the laptop won't communicate properly. What I could try, however, is to activate the router wifi without touching the covr-system, but I am afraid it will disturb the rest of the mesh system?

My network mesh is currently set as followed:
1: Router connected to socket in the wall.
2: The router has its wifi disconnected (both 2.4ghz and 5ghz)
3: The router is connected to a d-link covr 2200 mesh system.
4: The covr system is activated and is the only hardware that different units can connect to internet on.

Could it be that the laptop suffers from some sort of faulty network card or wrong network card and replacing it could help?

I have to correct myself. It's a wifi modem, not a router. But it is connected to d-link covr router mesh

I would either change the adapter for one of dual band or use the internal wifi which is dual band. Is there a reason why you’re using a wifi dongle rather than the internal wifi?
Is the speed the same when using the internal 5Ghz wifi as it is with the 2.4Ghz adapter?
How are you measuring the speed? I use Speedtest.net.

Does the mesh system broadcast both 2.4ghz & 5Ghz wifi signal?

The mesh system broadcast on both 2.4 and 5. I believe it is supposed to choose the best option for the connected units. Currently it is connected to the 5ghz band.

The reason i used the wifi dongle was more troubleshooting than anything. No other reason really then thinking it would fix the problem, but no...So the adapter have been returned to the shop and I will now consentrate on fixing whatever problem with either the laptop or other hardware/software already in play...
