Laptop boot problem - temperature issue?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Upon rebooting, my laptop can enter a state where the NIC, the sound card, and external USB drives are no longer functioning, as if they've been removed. All these devices appear in device manager with no errors.

If I reboot up to several times, it will enter its normal state eventually. But it will not restore from sleep mode if I close the laptop and will require a hard reset. Then it is a gamble of if the device will boot properly or not. If it does not, there will be a warning sign next to Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Processor Participant in device manager.

The drivers are all up to date, the laptop is relatively new (IOTA flo 4, 3 months), the OS is Win11, I have tried Windows reset twice, no luck. I have tried all typical advice like drivers, windows troubleshooting, resetting, system file checker etc.

Do you think this a temperature issue to the PCB? This has only started beginning since the weather got cold; I don't have much space for it and leave it by a window. Even when insulated, it's hit and miss, but there is a better chance.

I have tried Windows reset twice,
Be more specific, how did you also remember to reinstall the chipsets and hardware drivers in the proper order?

The drivers are all up to date
How were they updated?

the laptop is relatively new (IOTA flo 4, 3 months)
Would strongly suggest contacting the manufacture and or the place of purchase and file a warranty claim to have it repaired and or replaced.

No, because messing with that could prove cataclysmic to the unit as I have not diagnosed any specific component as failing. For instance, during an update, the root cause may interfere, causing a fatal file system corruption. Then I'd have two problems on my hands. Anyway, you'd only update chipset drivers if a device was seriously out of date, and for my entire PC maintenance career have never heard of a "proper order" in which to install hardware drivers.

According to the OS they are at the latest version and no update is required.

And get another unit with the same issues? Google at how much it costs. Its performance is so intermittent anyway that getting another laptop is probably the answer. It's interesting to see a device degrade so rapidly after a little use and movement in a rucksack. Maybe the lesson is, be wary of cheap amazon laptops.

Correct maybe look into a rugged tablet and or laptop.

Never trust that.

There is with some systems that do require the drivers to be installed in a certain order.

said nothing about update the chipset stated after you preformed the windows reinstallation. Yet you never stated how you preformed this.

Sure I will. That's a good idea. Doesn't explain how this device failed so quickly. It's never been dropped, I'm not jumping up and down on it.
Never trust that.

Nope nothing to do with drivers. I know this is the thing tech support clings on to with a vengeance but this unit is almost brand new. If it was outdated drivers why does the environment work fine on occasion? And you wouldn't touch the firmware unless it was grossly obsolete. I want to diagnose this first.

Windows Reset is the option to restore the OS with Windows 11. An update: Now the sound card and USB ports work fine.???

Here is another symptom: in the failed state, if I boot with the USB mouse connected, it will operate as normal. If disconnect and reconnected, the USB will no longer operate. And occasionally the system will crash into "Driver power state failure" BSOD if I attempt shutdown or restart (it will always freeze and require a hard restart). Seems to be a power issue?

Probably that the incorrect drivers are installed since windows takes and educated guess on the drivers that it installs.

which is why any properly trained tech will tell the user to go to the manufactures site to get the drivers and NEVER allow windows and or some third part crap ware to do this for them.

You can ither do what I suggest or just live with it.

The unit is 3 months old, has just had a soft factory reset, components were working but are now randomly failing left and right and you still think the problem is outdated drivers? How can the problem that ALL components simultaneously have wrong drivers after previously working fine. LOL!

Too late now as a full factory reset has lead me to a page where I require an internet connection to proceed. Since the NIC cannot be detected for whatever reason (except drivers) the device is now unusable. If you have any experience on what to look for on the pcb which would cause this that could prove helpful, I am thinking of replacing the psu if the machine will allow it.

I would be returning the unit.
3 Months old is still warranty covered.

Which points to driver or hardware issuses from the start.
If hardware it can be intermittent.
Because you have done a factory reset and the nic is not working it points to a failure of the hardware - do you have a network light?
OR it is a failure of the software drivers.
When these things are imaged as OBE there is always the possibilty of corruption.
Can you download the driver from another computer and install it to see if the problem is fixed. (By pass windows 11 must use internet for setup.)

So the drivers you have as the factory reset can be corrupt = vicious cycle.

OK so let's give it up with this silly drivers business. When multiple hardware components on a brand new device independently break down randomly with no pattern, there's clearly no programming issue. Why would all the software in the hardware components spontaneously fail. Furthermore the unit has just had a hard reset. It can't even detect my mouse.

I have no option of updating drivers any longer anyway since it launches into a screen which requires NIC and the card may or may not be connected. Is there anyone out there who has any information other than to tell me to update my drivers? I would appreciate help.

Nope, lets just put a stop to this thread, if you are such an expert you would not be asking for help from volunteers on a free tech help forum but would instead have the smarts to use the warranty that you have paid for to get the issue/s fixed.

Thread closed as per the above.
