Brand new build, my first in about a decade.

Asrock B450m pro 4 MB
Ryzen 5 3400g
32g Corsair vengeance 3200mhz DDR4 (which shows as 2133mhz in Bios)
Win 10 Pro

Keyboard works in Chrome and even notepad but will not work in the Winderz search bar etc. Keyboard works fine on another PC and other keyboards do the same thing on this one. Tried all USB ports, they all will run other devices but no keyboard.

So far I have:

Ran the keyboard troubleshooter
Tried driver update
Uninstalled drivers, reboot
Filter keys are off

I'm about to go from scratching to banging my head here, any help would be appreciated!

Sorry but a bit confused, are you saying that a PS/2 type keyboard will work but if you restart the computer it will stop working.

After installing Windows did you next install the AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:19.10.16_19H1_WHQL from here

Sorry if I was unclear. I meant that the PC did not recognize the PS/2 until I rebooted it with the keyboard plugged in, then it acted like the USB keyboard. I installed the driver you pointed me to, still no go. I didn't install anything off of the CD that came with the MB, this PC doesn't have an optical drive and I was not prompted to do so. I could copy it to a USB HD and run it from there if it's necessary.

I must confess that I have not seen such behaviour before tbh, a keyboard that will work in a browser but not Windows

How are you able to navigate to be able to open browsers.

Bit of an explanation for you so bear with me.

The BIOS has drivers for various devices including keyboards and that is why a keyboard can work in the BIOS but then stop working once the power on self test (POST) has completed.

Once Windows has been installed you must then install the drivers for the MB and normally starting with the chipset drivers first as they are what allow the chipset to communicate with other devices, your MB has a driver package that should have been installed as soon as Windows was up and running.

Tried installing the drivers, didn't work. Tried SFC /scannow, no go. Tried everything in this vid...nada

Every time I had to type in a box I had to type in Google, copy and paste.

I'm gonna reset this PC and go from there. Thanx for the help and I'll report how this goes tomorrow.

Still present after reset. Tried the fixes in the vid I posted again and #2 worked this time! I put ctfmon.exe in the startup folder and the problem went away. Thanx for the help and consider this post concluded.
