as you say, there are several ways.
I always like to do it 'in house' if the option exists rather than get another program, and of course, each to their own.

my way is to type this from a command prompt (doesn't need to be elevated); wmic os get caption,osarchitecture
 
This guide like all of mine are aimed at those not necessarily familiar with the inner workings of Windows, or in this case, convoluted command prompt directives, or even with a more simpler way than command prompt as per my earlier guide. Whatever floats your boat.
