Is it safe to download "ffmpeg.dll"?

I suspect this may be another of my "not so knowledegable" questions. I tried running a program my cell phone provider gave me to download voicemail to my computer but I get an error message " ffmpeg.dll missing". I did a search and found websites that say that it can be downloaded from them. Is it safe to download this from one of them?
 
General rule is not to download anything that you are not getting direct from the software provider, even more so when the version of Windows being used is no longer supported, too many bad guys out there looking to hijack peoples computers then hold them to ransom.

Your cell phone provider should really be helping you with this but if you let us know the program concerned we will see if we can find anything.
 
The program is T-MOBILE DIGITS. It wants "ffmpeg.dll". It sounds like it's supposed to be included in Windows but somehow is missing from mine.
 
Try uninstalling the present version of digits and then clean installing from the Play store here

If you get the same problem as before it would go some way to suggesting a problem with Windows.
 
Thank you for your response but we have some confusion here. T-Mobile Digits was downloaded directly from T-mobile's website. I'm sure that's the best place from where to download the program. And the play store version is for a cell phone anyway, not for a computer.

I know the problem is with windows because it is missing that file. My question is from where to get it. It seems, from what I've seen, to be a problem many people have - that they're missing that file.

T-Mobile Digits was downloaded directly from T-mobile's website. I'm sure that's the best place from where to download the program.

The very reason why the following was advised in my reply #2;

Try removing and then reinstalling DIGITS as suggested and if still the same problem we will check Windows for you.

NB: Can I just make sure that you have something like Windows media player or VLC installed on the computer, one such a program will be required to play audio media from an external source.
 
I can do that but I don't understand how that will help if it's missing that file. From a search I did it seems this is a little bit common problem people have of missing that file in their windows.
 
You would be removing the original installation which looks to be missing ffmpeg.dll and then clean installing DIGITS which should contain the missing ffmpeg.dll, this check should take you less than ten minutes to complete, the alternative being a Repair installation of Windows 7 or worse case scenario a clean install of Windows 7, either option will take hours and only be possible if you have Windows 7 on DVD, your choice, a ten minute check that may fix it or considerably longer spent but not being able to fix it.

NB: You seem to be assuming that this is automatically a Windows issue when it was explained in my reply #6 that ffmpeg.dll is not specific to any one program, it is used in many and is associated with audio or video playback programs.

The final decision lays with Wendy, take 10 minutes to rule in or out the issue being with the T-Mobile DIGITs app or look to repairing Windows 7 for which we will need Windows 7 media.

NB: Can I just make sure that you are not missing any Windows 7 updates Wendy, we know that Windows 7 is no longer supported but any updates required for Digits to be able to work on your PC will be a few years old,
 
I was only pointed there because a user had (had?) a solution:

"Hi Guys,

I was able to fix the issue by clearing the Teams cache
Make sure all teams processes are closed via Task Manager
Open the Run Command (Windows Key + R) and type %appdata% - then click enter


It will open the file explorer and then and you then need to follow path Microsoft\Teams\

You then just delete all the files in there other then the meeting add-in "
 
I will contact Tmobile IT support when they're back after the weekend. As that is the recommendation you may as well close this. If t-mobile support doesn't help there's nothing else to do anyway.
