Solved Is it mandatory to have account with Microsoft?

When I switched to OS 10 my laptop and desktop were set up under my Live email/password. (I use a tech local for this) Now I can't sign in to go to the account. I am however set up as admin and don't have to sign into my computer. In my settings I clicked on account and selected forgot password, except we don't choose to have a cell phone which is needed to confirm security code in that process. I don't remember having an account with MS in the xp days or when I had WIN 7. Also for any future questions in trouble shooting I notice there is an option to attach files with posted question. I like to do screen captures for a better way of presenting and question. Thank you

Welcome to PCHF imgrateful1,

The idea of having a Microsoft account is twofold, one to help you access your computer should you have a problem with your password and the second is do that you can access the Microsoft app store, I have two personal computers running Windows 10 and do not have either of them set up for live mail etc, I manage passwords carefully and avoid downloading apps so don`t need such a service from Microsoft.

Thank you for your response and I do appreciate service in finding answers. I guess I don't really have a problem then because I don't have to sign into my computer when I first turn it on. I understand that personal preference is involved on that issue, especially with laptops. A matter of security to sign in. thanks. imgrateful1

Hi, have half a dozen windows 10 pc's and never had a Microsoft account. Like @phillpower2 I choose to manage my passwords, and signing into Windows with a password has always been optional.

Yes you can post pictures which always help
