Hey, Wondering if you could help,

So when using my gaming PC, I notice ping spikes. I also timeout on some games randomly. Mainly because of my internet.

I am using: Tp-link Archer T4E AC1200 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter.

Also when running a speed test I have attached a picture of the results I get back.
My task manager says my wifi send and receive keeps fluctuating. My device never loses connection though.
No other devices within the house are having this issue.

The error message when I run a troubleshoot is "Default gateway not available". I have set a gateway manually so the PC should only be using that gateway and no other devices should be using it either but idk...

When the issue happens, my PC's internet stops working and google says "No Internet" and so does other apps and games, however, my wifi never disconnects?

Any ideas why I do not have a stable internet connection?
Thanks.

Hello Extech,

Various possible causes which include being too far away from the router, signal interference, browser security setting/s. using a VPN to name a few.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hey,

Here is what you asked for :)

Thanks,

Looked at Speccy and noted a couple of things, one or more may explain the issue but then again they may not, will get to them below.

Some questions if I may;

Is BullGuard the free or paid for version.

How far is the computer from the router.

Is Chrome set as your default browser.

You have Java on the computer, are you aware that the program is one of the most exploited programs that there is.

BullGuard is hogging your internet.

You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load.

Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 49 %

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

I suggest that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

Partition 2
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #2
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 0EAFEAD2
Size: 232 GB
Used Space: 182 GB (78%)
Free Space: 50 GB (22%) Don`t let this get any lower, as to why is explained below.

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Hey,

In answer to your questions,

  1. Bullguard is using the paid version.
  2. I am just up the stairs from the router. Probably about 10-15 steps from it.
  3. Microsoft Edge is my default browser
  4. Yes, however Java has never caused me issues on other devices before. I've used it for years.
  5. Bullguard might be the cause, however, the internet disconnects itself due to "DNS server not available" when running troubleshoots. No other devices within the house are facing this issue...
My task manager says Bullguard scanner is using the most memory at 241.4MB however if that is the case, then how do I run security scans on my PC without a security app?

No other PCs I know of have this issue so why is mine having it?

Thanks,
Ex

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

Have you tried making another browser the default, I use Chrome as I find Edge just too slow by the time it has loaded all sorts of stuff I don`t need.

Entirely up to you what you have on your computer and was just making sure that you were aware.

No other PCs I know of have this issue so why is mine having it?
Are any other computer using the same type of wireless device or have the exact same software installed?

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP Configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us.

Looked at the log, Windows looks to be the real problem with XBox & Steam issues thrown into the mix.

Are you aware that the User Account Control is disabled.

Windows installation date;

Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 09/04/2020 12:24:46

Was this a clean install of Windows.

Are there other WiFi signals in the area?
They maybe transmitting (broadcasting) on the same channel as you and that can cause some interference.

Have you tried changing the broadcasting channel?

Are you connecting 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz?

Have you tried on than the other to see if there is any difference?

Windows 10 comes with it own security software that you could use.

Have you tried to see if there is a difference if Bullguard is disabled?
