Solved Intel Core i7 980x CPU

I read if one has a i7 980x CPU, they have to "flash the BIOS before installing". How is that done? Is it easy? Can someone give me step by step instructions? The "before installing" part confuses me. Or do they mean "before I can run the PC & use the 980x"? What about people saying I can "brick" my PC by flashing the BIOS?

1. I am currently buying the parts for this LGA 1366 build. Brand new motherboard ASUS Rampage III Formula is on its way to me. Yes mobo is compatible with i7 980x CPU.

2. I have read several sites of different guys with problems when installing i7 980x. Seems they did not know to update BIOS. I have a better idea of it all now, especially after reading this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/272938-30-core-980x-woes

3. How exactly would one "do it improperly"?

Question: ASUS Rampage III Formula mobo already has the newest updated BIOS 0903. To confirm, that means the i7 980x will work & run right out of the box right?

Seems the above board ASUS Rampage III Formula already had Gulftown CPU support in BIOS 0402. Currently the board I have has BIOS 0903 which that number being greater than 0402, means I do not need to flash the BIOS. AWESOME !!! I'm ecstatic! Thanks for reading though :D

Download the wrong one and install it.

According to the link you posted from Toms Hardware that thread is Dated 2010. That is an eight year old post and the information is dated now and NULL.

Would confirm that when you get the board and make sure that is actually what is on there. Form what I have researched yes it is.
