Install Windows 8.1 over a laptop that came with Windows 10

it doesn't have a .exe to run

Perhaps this This tool will help, it will list what drivers are needed exactly. You maybe Need to transfer it to machine via usb stick or cd if no internet...I only have this to add, headed to work....



Download Unknown Device Identifier v9.00
  • Run it.
  • Allow it to complete.
  • Hit File >>Save
  • The default name will be DeviceList
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Open DeviceList.txt copy contents.
  • Attach it here.

@PeterOz Perhaps this device list will help...

If all else fails, then this tool may do what is needed, then again it certainly could install the wrong drivers, I have used it in the past with good results, this type of software I usually do not suggest, but in this case it may be needed. Just make sure and create a restore point prior to using, and you will need a working internet connection on the machine to use it.


Please allow peteroz to see if he can find the drivers you need before using this software.

 
I managed to choose the .inf file from the driver folder and get it in through “have disk” but there are loads of them. Which to pick? Also, I got warned when I tried to proceed. Should I proceed?
