I have a Opitlex 980 (305 wat psu, graphics hd graphic card,i5 3.20 ghz 3.19 ghz, 8gb of ram, 0d441t motherboard and 465 gb hard drive). My friend told me i should get a new graphics card and a new psu what is true but do i need to upgrade something more?

A new GPU and PSU are a good start but upgrading ether is not straight forward, any new GPU needs to be within a certain size due to the small case and the present PSU is non propriety which means that any new PSU will need to be used with an adaptor, see thread here

Unless urgent avoid double posting, I get up to 200 emails a day to read and there is nothing worse than being mid way through typing a reply but then having to stop to see what was added.

Had it been worth upgrading the processor it would have been mentioned, a slight increase in speed from an I5 or a quad core i7 that is slower than the present CPU and which may need a BIOS update first are just not worth the hassle, if either had allowed for faster RAM to be used it would have been worth considering but neither option offers this, you are stuck with 1066 or 1333MHz RAM.

A definite no on that PSU.

There is one thing that is possibly worse than using a known poor quality brand of PSU and that is using one that is unheard of, for brands of PSU to trust and brands to avoid please refer to the links in my sig.

Okay but now to graphics cards, i was thinking about Geforce GTX 1050 Ti D5 4GB because it was kinda a budget graphic card and ive seen alot of good reviews.

You still need a new PSU and to measure inside of the case to see what size GPU will fit in there, most GPUs are dual slot as well so any card in the PCI slot would need to be removed or the new GPU will not fit.

Any GPU needs to go in the first PCI-E slot, it will only work at 1/4 of the performance if you use the X4 slot.

Not sure why you post the measurements btw, you need them not us as you are the one that has got to find and fit the appropriate size GPU, hardware is both scarce and expensive due to the lock down situation so it could take you some time to get the PSU, PSU adaptor and GPU so I hope you are not in any rush.

Already provided the necessary information.

Not sure why you have post the above or how you think it changes anything, you asked for upgrade advice and you have been provided with it + if you are on such a tight budget why did you also ask about upgrading the CPU as well.

Short version, find a GPU that fits in your machine, purchase the appropriate spec and quality brand of PSU and the required PSU adaptor and you are sorted.

Just fyi, if you are wanting us to say that it is ok to use a rubbish PSU I`m afraid that it is not going to happen, we would rather give no advice than give bad advice.
