I have use for a while of an HP Envy 17 laptop. When I'll be using it away in a place where physical security may not be the best, I want to be able to lock the laptop to some immovable stationary object so that it's secure and I won't be worrying about it. The manual, such as it is, shows a security cable slot. But it doesn't say anything about the type of slot nor the type of lock that would fit. I tried to find a lock for it at a computer store but I was told there isn't a standard for these locks so the salesman couldn't tell me what to get. Is anyone familiar with this laptop's lock slot and which lock would fit in it?

while a Kensington Lock may give you a warm and fuzzy feeling that your unit is secured, they simply 'slot' into a hole in the aluminum or magnesium alloy of the chassis and take only a good yank to simply rip it free.

it's a visual deterrent and designed to make the would-be-robber look for an easier target.

but hey, anything is better than nothing!
