Hello allan hogg,

Couple of questions if I may;

How come you haven't upgraded to Windows 10 for free while you still can.

Why do you have the filthy resource hog aka Avast on your computer instead of using the much better built in Windows Defender & Firewall, Avast has become a monster these days and can be an absolute nightmare to get rid of off of the computer.

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

We need to forget about Windows 10 for now as you have more pressing issues.

Spotted your problem and to be quite honest you are lucky that you have not lost everything on the HDD already;

Partition 2
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #2
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 1C62440D
Size: 930 GB
Used Space: 886 GB (95%)
Free Space: 44 GB (5%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Troubleshooting computer problems is a waste of time when it is known that Windows is out of date as any one of a number of the missing hot fixes could be the solution to any problem that you may be having.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself a means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Hi thank you very much I seen that yesterday that I only had 44 gb free and never thought much off it that's why am not expert lol how much would I be looking to have free 200gb?
Thank you so much for your help it really is appreciated Al delete nearly everything just now most not needed

On a 1TB HDD when installing Windows I will normally put it on its own 200GB partition so free up a bit more if you can.

Once we are all out of lock down I would suggest that as soon as you can you get yourself an external HDD for backing up to.

No problem I have a 1tb external hardrive if I install windows 10 will I lose my programs sorry for questions just wondered and Al delete enough I don't know nothing about partitioning hardrive etc

You could try going the update route which would normally allow you to keep your programs but being honest you are so low on free storage space the upgrade may not work even after you have freed up some space, we can see by the failed updates in Speccy that Windows has been having problems for a while, you can try the upgrade here if you wish but if I was in your position I would clean install Windows 10 and then reinstall any programs afterwards.

Can I ask that you do not quote replies, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

Sorry don't know if you thought I meant to sound bad just meant is there anything else I can do jusst because my disk usage still at 99 would upgrade or new install fix it better I've tried stopping services

From my reply #6;

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.
There is no way of knowing if the drive is going bad as one of the consequences of running on low disk space is that sectors on the drive get overwritten and once things get so bad the drive will not be able to boot.

no problem thank you for all your help its weird seems to balance its self out sometimes like attachement
run disk check and it says no errors were found thought it may find something thanks again for taking your time to help much appreciated

The drive could be fine but there is no way of knowing atm but looking at your CPU usage in the same screenshot you can still tell that there is something amiss.

no problem dont want to waste anymore of your time if you have any more ideas of anything to do or that you would do likr purchase new hardrive etc let me know if not all good thanks
