I’m looking to build a pc. I’m new to this so it’s slightly confusing knowing what’s best to buy without costing to much. I was on Craigslist and saw a “high end” gaming pc that was listed for $725. He said he built it for $1800 in 2018. Here are the specs

Tech Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 4.2GHz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Processor Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS ASUS H97M-PLUS Motherboard M.2 LGA 1150 MATX Motherboard
Memory: CORSAIR 2X8GB DDR3 2400
SSD: Samsung 250GB Vertical SSD Hard Drive
Hard Drive: Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5inch Hard Drive
Video Card: ASUS Dual GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 DUAL-GTX1060-O3G 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5
Case: Zalmen k1 RGB mid tower
Power Supply: Corsair 750W ATX Power Supply Black
Case Fans: NZXT RF-AR120-T1 AER RGB 120mm Triple Pack
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit Legit

is this a good deal? Or a bad idea to buy? Thanks :)

Welcome to PCHF Jesse,

No disrespect to the original builder but while that may have been a good build a few years back it is now well out of date, the CPU was first released in early 2014 as one example and the hardware being DDR3 is another.

Something else to always watch out for is when sellers don`t give the full PSU details, if for example the Corsair 750W ATX PSU in that that build is the CX version I would not have used it in that build.

You are welcome Jesse :)

Anything else we can help you with, we could put a parts list together for you if you want, we would just need to know your maximum budget and what the main use of the computer would be.

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit Legit
A legit version of this would cost circa $139.99 so not sure that I would be too keen on giving it away for free and if I was buying a used computer with an OS pre installed I would ask for the product key itself and a proof of purchase, I've seen many folk come unstuck after buying a used computer with a pre installed OS on it, things are fine to begin with and then you can start getting messages saying that the product key is in use on another computer and Windows as a consequence will not update.

Hey! A lot has changed since I wrote this post. During that time I was putting together the parts and they are all ordered. I didn’t really have a budget but I didn’t want to spend something crazy as I’m only 17 lol. Here are the parts :
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Windforce OC 6G 192-bit GDDR6 DisplayPort 1.4 HDMI 2.0B with Windforce 2X Cooling System Graphic Cards- Gv-N166TWF2OC-6GD

Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E1T0B/AM)

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler - YD270XBGAFBOX

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15)

MSI Arsenal Gaming AMD Ryzen 1st and 2nd Gen AM4 M.2 USB 3 DDR4 DVI HDMI Crossfire ATX Motherboard (B450 Tomahawk)

Cooler Master MasterCase H500 ATX Mid-Tower w/ Tempered Glass Side Panel, Transparent/ Mesh Front Option, Carrying Handle & 2x 200mm RGB Fans w/RGB Controller

EVGA 600 BR, 80+ Bronze 600W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 100- BR-0600-K1

Your input definitely helps, so if I should return anything to make my pc better before build day just let me know. My brother built a pc not to long ago and is going to help me. He helped me pick some parts after I used pc part picker to get started. Thanks!!!

You want a Gold efficiency rated PSU for that build and the longer the warranty period the better, you don`t need anything near a 600W to support those parts so allowing for the addition of an additional storage device or two I suggest the 550W Seasonic here has a seven year warranty for peace of mind.

okay thank you so much. Glad you pointed that out as I was wondering what to get yesterday since 600w seems like to much. I ordered the one you linked, thanks again!
