Hi, I have found that the last few updates have caused my headphone (with mic) to not work in my laptop. I had to restore the system to before the updates to make the microphone work again. Then the automatic updates happen, and my microphone is back to not working again.
There are two issues I found:
I can hear sound, but I can't speak.
I can speak and the other side can hear me but I can't hear their sound.
I use conexant hd audio, and this problem only occured after the last 2-3 updates.
I uninstalled conexant hd audio and now I can only hear in my headphone but not speak.

Also there is only Conexant SmartAudio HD driver under Sound, video and game controllers in device manager. I am not sure if there is supposed to be another one for microphone ?

i restored the system back to the previous restore point, and the mic is now working like before. The thing I discovered is the latest conexant smart driver update 8.66.16.50 doesn't work with headphone (maybe there are other things that are the causes as well since the system restore did restore many settings) but the previous restore point where the driver was version 8.65.55.62 works. Is there a way to stop conexant smart audio driver from updating? I don't want to have to waste so much time again and again in restoring the system back to previous restore points.
