HDMI not working with TV

Hi I'm sorry that this is the wrong thread but I couldn't find anywhere more relevant.
I have a desktop and a TV. No monitor. I heard one of my fans going crazy inside like something was laying against it. I turn everything off, open it up. I do my best not to touch anything cause I don't wanna mess it up but I moved some of the wires and then used a cottonbud to clean some of the worst of the dust that had built up inside. I put the panel back on, started it up, and now suddenly my TV can't find a signal with my desktop.
I tried the same cable and TV with my ps4 and it worked fine.
I've done all the usual troubleshooting. Swapped inputs around, turned them on in a different order, stood on one foot while singing the U.S. national anthem. (Sorry for the joke)
The things I keep seeing are "update your drivers" and "change your PCs settings" but I've got no clue how I can do that when I can't *see* what's going on.
If you've read this far, thank you and what do you suggest?
Right now I'm thinking either I have to:
Buy a monitor and see what happens there.
Fix something I may have broke (somehow) internally.
Or (the one I'm dreading) talk to the guy who built the PC but I'd rather not do that.

Sounds like the video card may have died and possibly by overheating based on what you mention about a fan going crazy.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

Hey thanks Phil,

It's a custom build (not built by myself, by someone I've never met. It was given to me by a friend)
Now I'm not terribly computer savvy so please forgive me if I use the wrong lingo. I can see on the front it has a blue logo with "GC".
Inside, what I think is the GPU says "msi" with a Dragon symbol.
The power supply has "Corsair CX750"
And I *think* the ram is 4Gb but I might need to double check it.
I hope this helps anyone having a look at the issue.

I feel I should clarify too, when I'm saying "things I keep seeing...update drivers...change settings" I mean to say that I've been trawling online forums trying to find the solution and that's what I've been seeing this whole time.

Hello KiltKnight.

We need to know the motherboard and processor details I`m afraid, having this info lets us know if you have the option of onboard video which would allow you to remove the add on video card, hook up the screen to a video port and then test.

Knew what you meant regarding what you had been reading online but thanks for clarifying all the same (y)

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.
