Solved having issues setting up second monitor

hey there! I just got a new monitor and I've decided to keep my older one as a second display. But I can't get it to work.

So here's the thing. When I have the two monitors plugged in together, only the new monitor is displaying the desktop. But the windows seem to be opening on the old monitor which is blacked out. I assume that Windows has the old monitor set up as the main display, so I try to change it to the new one. But when I do, they both end up with blacked out screens.

Another thing, for some reason, in the display settings, it shows another monitor [Display device on: VGA]. I can't disable it. It's just there, though grayed out. Is this a problem or can I ignore it?

Some info you may find useful: Running on Windows 8.1, old monitor is on VGA, new is on DVI, graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 4650 (I've been told this could support dual monitors?? idk though... is it time to get a new one??)

Thanks for the time reading and any help you'd be able to provide!

Thanks guys for the responses!

I plugged in the old monitor to see if Windows key + P would work (I've only tried the right click>screen resolution option), and somehow both monitors are working as I wanted it to before I even did anything. Not sure what happened, as I've only plugged in the old monitor as I've done many times before.

Anyway, all's good now, I think. At least I don't have to get a new video card (yet). Thanks again!

Glad to see that it is working at this time keep us informed on how things are going and if you run into any issues or have a question we are always here.

Some times it just takes a bit of tweaking and finally it just wants to work the way we want.
