About two weeks ago my Benq monitor started having problems keeping its calibration. When it got to the point of needing calibration 4 or 5 times a day, I switched it with a monitor on a different PC. The Benq monitor worked fine on the other PC, but the original PC still wouldn't hold its calibration with the alternative monitor. I decided to try replacing the graphics card.

I bought an ASUS TUF Gaming 3 AMD Radeon RX 5700XT OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card -- the newer one that doesn't have the bad heating problem. I was delighted that this seemed to fix the monitor calibration issue!

Then, another problem. Some graphics functions were TERRIBLY slow! Typing in MS Word, for example, resulted in a significant delay before the letters I typed appeared on the screen. Also, I found that I could no longer use one of my Photoshop plugins. It gave the message, "OpenGL 3.3 and later is required for this application to run. Try updating your graphics drivers." So, I did the following:

1) Updated the graphics driver for my new graphics card -- Problem not fixed.
2) Deleted all nVidia software -- Problem not fixed.
3) Reinstalled Photoshop and the plugin -- Problem not fixed.

Now I don't know what to do. I would really appreciate help!

Thank you!

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

My power supply is the Seasonic PRIME TX-750. The Speccy URL is http://speccy.piriform.com/results/AtTtUTkkyPRpRPY6LvKOYXF

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as I have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

PSU info acknowledged, with all those additional storage devices it is a good job that you have a very good quality PSU, I would recommend that you check that all of the modular cables are securely connected at both ends.

Things of note in Speccy;

Antivirus
System Shield Sorry but this type of software should be banned, it is at best a gimmick but at worst a danger to the stability of a computer and its security, see review and test results here and how to get shut of it here
Antivirus: Disabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
Windows Defender
Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

Having more than one AV or Firewall installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

Once any other AV has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Power Profile
Active power scheme: System Mechanic - Ultra Performance

I suggest that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High or Ultra Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

You have a lot of different keyboard and mouse drivers installed, create a new system restore point and then get rid of any drivers that are not used for your present keyboard and mouse.

Thanks (y)

You can go ahead and make those changes now, security and safety come first so I would suggest that you get rid of System Shield and its associated stuff and then change the Power Plan to see if those two changes help any.

Thank you.

I've now removed any AV products except Defender. I then did a full scan (which required almost two hours). The scan uncovered "Misleading:Win32/Lodi" which I removed with Defender. I then changed the power plan to "Let the let the application decide" (I couldn't locate "Balanced") and then followed that with a quick scan with Defender, just to be sure that the Trojan Horse was gone. (All was fine.) Unfortunately, the slow graphics response still exists. I'll now reboot and then do the restore checkpoint and remove unused drivers.... and let you know the outcome.

Polite reminder, please do not quote every reply, I have to read upwards of two hundred emails a day and can do without reading stuff that is not helpful.

Where did you look for the Windows Power Plan.

Can we have a new Speccy url.

If what we do here does not resolve the issue we will need to ask a security expert to take a look.

I understand about your (amazing) volume of email. Sorry for sending unneeded text!

I was able to remove/uninstall all of the unnecessary mouse drivers and most of the keyboard drivers. The uninstall button on three of the generic keyboard drivers was grayed out, so I couldn't remove them. I have the Corvair Strafe keyboard which seems to be using one of the generic drivers.

I don't recall where I changed my performance option to "Let the let the application decide" (At 75, my memory isn't what it used to be!) However, I have now changed it (via the Control Panel) to balanced.

The new Speccy URL is http://speccy.piriform.com/results/F0XDkuEaKMOphthNFfEcLrt

Thanks again.

In an earlier response you said, "If what we do here does not resolve the issue we will need to ask a security expert to take a look." Please let me know if that's something that I should do, or if you do it.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I sent the problem to ASUS since it's their video card. They indicated that it sounds like a hardware problem and that I should send the card back for repair. This just doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like some strange sort of software issue.... maybe some kind of error-recovery going on. BUT, I really need some thoughts and suggestions from experts since I'm definitely NOT ONE. Can you help?

Thank you!

Thank you for checking.

I'm not very hopeful about ASUS being able to resolve this issue. I am currently dealing with the third support person. The first one almost immediately said that I should "send in the product for repair". I pointed out why it didn't sound like a hardware issue (i.e., various software failures and terrible performance in SOME apps but not all). At that point, I was asked to send them lots of information (which I did). In fact, each support person asked for more info. The last person sent a form for me to fill out (which I did) and wanted even more information (which I provided). As they have requested, I've reinstalled drivers and installed performance software. (One of which, FurMark failed to installed with yet another error message pointing to OpenGL.) I don't think that my issue has yet to make it to the real technical staff.

Each person that I've dealt with has been extremely polite and reassuring. But, frankly, it's been a very frustrating process. I'm thinking of removing the ASUS GPU and seeing if things are any different when using the graphics abilities of my ROG motherboard. However, I don't want to "muddy the waters" until I give up on getting help.

Thank you.

I haven't received any suggestions recently. Can you please tell me if I did something wrong, or if there's something else I should do? I'm pretty desperate.

Thanks again!

Here is another error message that I have received when installing or updating some (but not all) software products. Also, here's a link to a very short video that shows the MS Word performance that I'm getting since I installed the new video card. All of MS Word is extremely slow, but I thought that showing the typing response was the best example. Note that other typing (such as this entry) has no performance issues.

Thank you!
