Solved GPU clearances and dimensions

I'm designing a custom GPU support pillar and I'm trying to figure out the relation between CPU heatsink height and GPU width. Since all cases always provide their cooler clearance, I'll be able to calculate whether that pillar will fit or not. (part of it is going in front of the GPU and then leans over it. The "in front" part is why I need to know that relation of CPU cooler height to GPU width. Need to know what kind of clearence the case should have to fit the **** thing or how much narrower I need to make the **** thing to make it fit in the case.)

I'm asking a few of you to measure the difference in height between your CPU cooler and your GPU, and send me that dimension and models of both the GPU and the cooler. Ironically I can't use my own system for that since it's using an aftermarket cooler on the GPU so I can't look up it's width according to specs.

would be handy to know your parts in question: case make/model, GPU make/model, CPU heatsink size, fan radius?

what do you mean by "designing a custom GPU support pillar"?
is it the back plate where the GPU mounts onto the case chassis that you are designing?

why not just get a full tower case so there's always room for growth, or even a Server case.

It would appear that you did not understand my request at all. All I'm asking for is for some members, perhaps yourself included, to physically take a ruler into their case and measure the height difference between the CPU heat sink and the GPU. In this case when I say Height I mean distance from the motherboard.

you are describing more of a bracket. I'm designing something along these lines

I don't want a full tower case if I don't need one. This whole thing is to find out whether I do or not.
 
So you want members to and give you there inside measurements in height differences of there pc's.. More or less most cases have a standard of size inside and out.. More over you seem to be asking a lot from other members to do this..just saying..

I'm not asking for case sizes! I know those are mostly standard! I'm asking for height difference between gpu and cpu cooler. One measurement and two model numbers. I don't really see how that's a lot tbh

measure the height difference between the CPU heat sink and the GPU. In this case when I say Height I mean distance from the motherboard

I'll give you two of mine PC's
  • PC1 - 25mm difference
  • PC2 - 15mm difference
That's simple! I still need you to tell me the models of the cpu cooler and the gpu.
And then I'll look up their dimensions and fill in the blanks below. This will end up being a formula along these lines.
(cpu cooler height per specs) minus (the difference you provided) minus (gpu Width per specs) equals (the point where the far edge of the GPU ends up compared to the CPU). This number is my final goal with this thread. It should be the same or almost the same for both of your systems.

After that I can take that number, add a different GPU width to it and compare that number with the case's CPU cooler clearance to see how much space is left there.

now we get to the nitty-gritt and this is where I feel your logic will fail you.

one of my cases is a full-tower ATX and the other a SFF.
the SFF case has its CPU fan on a 45 degree angle to the back plate.
and I have a GPU card in storage that has a heatsink on both sides, whereas you may be expecting all GPU cards to start at the PCI slot and 'go downwards' away from the CPU.

both CPU heatsinks and fans are generic stock, one that came with the Intel chip and the other came with the Lenovo desktop so who knows what propriority parts they have used.
one of the GPU's is an old low profile Nvidia GTX750. the other a Quadro P400.

I ended up digging through quite a few closets but I ended up finding and old gpu with a stock cooling solution. And here's the result. If you look up your case's cpu cooler clearence, add 25mm to it (which was the number I've been trying to identify this whole time) and substract the width parameter of your gpu (in case of Quadro that's 69mm), You will find out how big of a gap there is between your gpu and the left wall of your case. That is of course assuming your gpu is plugged in directly into the motherboard and not through a riser.

Example: Phantex P400A has a cpu cooler clearance of 160mm. Nvidia RTX 3090 Founders Edition has a width of 138mm. Now I go 160+25-138=47mm which means that the gap between the side of the 3090 and the left wall of the case will be 47mm. and that's how thick I can afford to make my pillar in that place.
