Gaming PC upgrade

I want to ensure the best upgrade for my PC.

For the future the main games I will be playing are COD WW2, Fifa 18 (when they are out), Rocket League, GTA and CSGO. I play these games at 4k and I'm unsure whether to upgrade my CPU (mobo and ram) or a GPU.

I would be planning to get an i5 7600k and mobo and ram or a GTX 1070.

My current PC, i5 4460 and GTX 970.

In some games I see lag, fps drops and freezing.

What would be the best upgrade?

Currently I have an i5 4460 and want to upgrade my cpu.

The i7 4790k would be a cheaper option as I won't need to upgrade mobo and ram.

Is the i7 4790k still good and be able to run 4k games with my 970?

Or should I spend more and get a new mobo ram and a 6700k.

Hi Oliver.
I have both those processors in Rigs and benchmarks are about the same. You are not going to gain much buying a new Mobo, i7- 6700K processor and Ram.
I would be looking at the new AMD Ryzen7 1700X AM4 socket. Pulling big No's in comparison to the Processors mentioned above.
Benchmarks.
i7- 4790K 11194
i7- 6700K 11108
AMD Rysen7 1700X 14670
I would seriously think Rysen, AM4 Mobo and new Ram.

Also, switching to AMD for the CPU, motherboard, and GPU is definitively a viable option but it depends on how much you are wanting to spend and what you are going to be doing on the computer. If its just going to be gaming then you may as well stick to Intel but if you want a high CPU core count to stream online content as well as play video games then you can definitely consider getting an AMD based system instead.
