Hey everyone,

About a month ago I build my own PC, for the first time. This all went well and the PC worked. The only thing was, when I am playing games, sometimes the game freezes and shuts itself down.

This did not happen much at first, but it keeps on getting worse.

I have reinstalled the drivers, but this did not fix the problem.

The BIOS is also updated to the newest version.

The problem occurs with multiple games and with different quality settings. I can't even play minecraft now......

I lowered my settings again, and started playing for a while. after 40 min I did put the game on pause to drink some coffee, and when i came back the game shut itself down again and the PC was showing this message:

translation:

There has been a problem with the screen drivers. The system may have a shortage of sources to play the game with the current settings. You could try again with the same settings, or lower the settings. Make sure you got the newest drivers for your hardware, and try to reboot the system to solve the problems.

(at the end, the game just shuts down)

could anyone help me with this? Because I have already reinstalled my drivers twice, and lowering the settings does not fix the problem.

After some advice from this post I have under-clocked my GPU. At the moment it runs at 1000 MHz clock core, and 1600 MHz memory. This did not fix the issue. (I did this on advice from a post on a subreddit)

I also looked a bit on other topics, and installed a display driver uninstaller, and run this. after that, I installed the recommended driver for my GPU from the AMD website. This also did not solve the problem.

I do have a monitor with only a VGA input, so the monitor is connected to the GPU by a HDMI to VGA cable. (I do not have the money right now to buy a new monitor).

Driver installed: Adrenalin 2020 20.2.2 (recommend one).

I do not know how to proceed to the next part in finding the solution, could anybody be of assistance?

Also, MSI afterburner showed me my in-game stats, end the GPU did not take more power than 125 W while I was in-game.

After I saw that MSI afterburner could cause the issue, I deleted it, but this did not solve the problem either.

Does anybody have a clue about what could be the problem?

specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600

MSI 4 GB D5 RX 570 ARMOR 4G OC

Asrock B450 Pro4 ATX motherboard

HyperX FURY 16 GB memory 2666 MHz

Kingston A400 SSD 120 GB

Toshiba DT01ACA100 1 TB HDD

Thermaltake Smart RGB 500 Watt PSU

BitFenix Nova case

Thanks

Edit: I did already change out the GPU, and this did not resolve the issue........

I agree with Evan, the present PSU is not powerful enough, the GPU requires a good quality brand 450W PSU, Thermaltake are not a good brand and are one of the worst for mis marketing their products, the claimed 500W PSU cannot even provide the 450W that the GPU requires, see attachment.

Yes,

I do have an update......
I ordered a new PSU (coolermaster mwe 650 v2) since it was on sale and it saved me quite a lot of money. I recieved a coolermaster mwe 600 without the box wrapped in bubbleplastic..... But for the sake of testing I build it in anyway and it made a lot of noise and crashed the whole pc within 5 minutes.....
I reconnected the old PSU and it kept running, but I still do have the same problem as before, so I am contacting the seller but that takes some time.

I also removed the drivers for the GPU and installed the 19.9.2 version, since a lot of people suggest that for other people, so I need to test that right now.....

The game isn't over yet and we keep on trying.... haha

Get your money for the PSU back and whatever you do, never buy a used PSU and especially a sub standard brand like Cooler Master, trust me it will end in grief, you should always be willing to spend a bit more on a PSU not skimp as a cheap PSU has the potential to take out all of your hardware should it go bang

Always go with a quality PSU for your power supply. Buying a cheap substandard power supply like with Cooler Master is going to be a major mistake and can cause your hardware to be rendered useless should the power supply fail.

The PSU that I linked to should be what you buy for testing as its a good quality unit and will help to rule out the power supply as causing the issue.

So, I bought a new PSU, and this did resolve the issue regarding the GPU problems. Or it did not happen again since I installed it. But, heb it was installed i randomly got a bleuscreen and after some research and troubleshooting I decided to remove the ram from slot B2. This resolved the issue and the system could run games for longer periods of time without any problems. I then switched the ram I removed with the ram in slot A2 (so both were tried in slot A2) and this the system was running fine.
Is it possible that the could be a problem with the board? Are they common and is it something to fix relatively easy or is it something I did not think of yet?
I am currently running again on both slots to try if the problem returns.

ps. the hardware regarding to ram:
2x Hyperx fury 2666 mHz 8GB sticks
asrock b450 pro 4 motherboard

Just a quick update and I will write again if the problem appears again.
