Hey guys,

I really want a gaming PC and I’m not good at building PC’s as I’ve never done it.

I’ve have a look on PC SPECIALIST and have come up with the core components I need for a decent gaming PC that will last me a while.
ive watched a few videos on YouTube and done some research.
I’d like some opinions or any recommendations on the build.
Processor: AMD RYZEN 5800X
Motherboard: gigabyte x570 GAMING X
RAM: 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz
Graphics Card: 12GB Nvidia RTX 3060 (no 3060ti in stock)
Storage: 2TB Seagate

So most likely a lot of FPS games (Warzone, Battlefield- when is comes out), Minecraft, GTA, RPG games such as Genshin Impact.

Also I will use it for work which is just really going to be using up Microsoft teams and Microsoft 365 so not too much there.

Forgot to mention, I also want to ensure that the PC has longevity so not constantly needed to change things. I’d prefer it if the specs stayed the same for a while and if need be in the future I can change them out.

As for the PSU, I'll be getting a Corsair 5502 CV series.

Would you say what I've got within the core specs is a bit too much?

Thanks for the link.

I've found a Corsair 750W TXm SERIES Semi-modular 80 plus will this be sufficient enough? It is also a GOLD series.

Also, I am thinking of knocking the RAM down from 32GB to 16GB, thoughts?

Is the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X good for gaming?

If you want to save a fair chunk of cash read the article at the above link.

Corsair RM750 750 Watt 80+ Gold Fully Modular PSU

Costs a few £ more but is fully modular and has a ten year warranty.

Whatever you do RAM wise make sure that you get two sticks of 3200MHz capable RAM so you get dual channel and the full speed, one stick can only work in single channel meaning that you only get 50% of the performance that 3200MHz RAM is capable of.

Regarding storage, never keep all your eggs in one basket, if that 2TB drive fails you have lost everything, go two Xs 1TB and partition one so that Windows is on it`s own 300GB partition, the rest of the drive can be used for data storage, the second drive to be used for data storage and at least one of your back up options.

sounds like all the basics are well covered.
except you don't mention a SSD or NVMe drive - a must have in my book.

I'd spend more than you thought you would on the foundations - motherboard, memory, power supply and processor.
anything else can easily be upgraded as required down the track, particularly the GPU.
yes things like the memory can too but with processor and motherboard architecture changing every few years, it'll be good to lock them in now with "above and beyond" specs.

the GPU for example, while being a very bad time to buy them, I would only get the bare minimum to play the games you know you will be playing. you can't crystal ball things and it's one thing I learned from when my young son was into games - every new game he got, I had to upgrade the GPU!!!
that's the cost of playing games on a PC, during the life of the rig, you'll go through at least 2 or 3 GPU's.

And I am not planning to Overclock really. Again, I think for me it's getting a PC with parts that will continue to work for a long period of time.

Also, the RAM is 32GB or 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz 2 x 8GB

Thanks for the info about the storage, I was thinking the same in terms of possibly losing everything on the 2TB drive. Would you recommend HDD or SSD or both??

Hey, I appreciate the response!

Yeah, that's the trouble, being able to get your hands on a GPU's at a time like this.

In terms of the SSD, how much memory do you think is sufficient? As again, I will only be using the PC for games and work so like Microsoft teams and the use of Microsoft packages and saving documents here and there.

Lastly, what GPU do you recommend? Someone like me who will occasionally play warzone, Genshin impact (majority of the time), Battlefield when it comes out. I don't want a PC that will constantly need upgrades right now, but I want one which I can say is safe to use in the long run without any major issues.

It's my first time gathering components for a PC and I want to make sure I don't mess it up as I will end spending a lot of money!

Because you want to future proof your build if your budget will allow it 2 Xs 16GB sticks would be the way to go.

Storage is again budget dependant, an SSD is a must for the boot device but you will get away with a 1TB WD Caviar Black mechanical HDD for data only storage, your favourite games/most used software could be kept on the second partition on the SSD.

as to what GPU, let the requirements from the games you want to play now be your guide there, and budget permitting again, get the next level (or two) above that.

but you won't know whatever the next game you will get into will require, so it's always going to be based on an educated guess.

Thank you for the advice!

That is a good way to find out what GPU is best I never thought of that.

I think I will stick to the GPU I have chosen.
