I have, assumingly, copied and pasted my old password file from my previous harddrive to my new one but it hasn't had any effect. No detail entries are given when I visit my old sites. What might have happened?

Ok if you can boot to that drive use Mozbackup to backup all your profile stuff to say a flash drive, then restore it when you boot to your new hard drive.
