Can one run multiple clients on a PC to see it all works ? If so do they manage not to mess each other up ?
I take it they'd refuse to share an account data file.
You can run multiple clients on one PC.
You can share data files ONLY if the clients use the same file extension (different versions of Office). Definitely not a wise choice.

Uninstalled. Unsure how to hide. Do I have to reboot the PC to see if anything's changed ?

Interesting. I tried to open it again to get a message that there was a serious error the last time the add-in "Kaspersky outlook anti-spam addin" was opened. Think I'll disable it for now.
Kaspersky is spyware, btw. According to some.

Ensure that Outlook is using Port 110 , not 587

Ah HA !!!! Mail incoming now !
I need a recap.

Is outlook listening on port 110 or 587?

Anti-virus software requires 110

Mail coming from the MS server (virtually any public web server) will not really benefit from a local anti-virus check on your PC. Those mails have already been scanned.

Use port 587 and no anti-virus routine.

To hide updates, you must run a troublehsooter
See:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...t-a-windows-update-from-reinstalling-in-windo

Opening wushowhide.diagcab will launch the troubleshooter. Then click Next to proceed and follow the instructions provided by the troubleshooter to hide the problematic driver or update.

Incoming (POP3) is 995
Outgoing (SMTP) is 465

These would have been taken from the e-mail provider's instructions, finding a port that worked.

I didn't note where it said I could look at and change Outlook add-ins, and now have not been able to find them to turn them on nor off.

I'll have a look at the troubleshooter tomorrow, thanks.

Cheers. The add-in bit was well hidden ! I'll note that it's there but leave it alone for the present.

I still get the warning about redemption.dll when I start Outlook, but it's worked like that for some months now without it being an issue.
Ah ha ! Redemption Helper Outlook Extension ! Must do a web search on that.

Maybe I should say that also, for years, I've not been getting e-mail automatically downloaded; that suddenly stopped working without any obvious cause, and I now have to hit that send/receive key when I think of checking. But it doesn't worry me that much. I'd not bother correcting it normally, but as I'm here, does anyone know what might fix that ?

I may try that eM client on the secondary e-mail account. It'd be a good way to trial it.

Ah it looks like I've already downloaded wushowhide.diagcab
Probably when I was getting advice on getting the graphics issue fixed back in March.

...I've not been getting e-mail automatically downloaded; that suddenly stopped working without any obvious cause...

Symptoms
When you start Microsoft Outlook, Outlook does not automatically perform a send and receive operation to download messages from the server.
Cause
This behavior can occur because of a damaged Send/Receive group within Outlook.
Resolution
To resolve this behavior, create a new Send/Receive group in Outlook:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups
  2. Under Group Name, click the group, and then click Copy.
  3. Under Send/Receive Group Name, type the new group name, and then click OK.
  4. Under Group Name, click the old group name.
  5. Under both When Outlook is Online and
When Outlook is Offline, click to clear the check box for
Include this group in Send/Receive (F9).
  6. Click Close.
  7. Quit Outlook, and then restart Outlook.

Ok, no problem. Got that up.
Under Group Name, click the group, and then click Copy.
Ok, Done.
Under Send/Receive Group Name, type the new group name, and then click OK.
The existing one is "All Accounts" So I'm leaving the new one as the default name of "Copy of All Accounts"
Under Group Name, click the old group name.
Ok, that'll be highlighting the "All Accounts" group.
Under both When Outlook is Online and When Outlook is Offline, click to clear the check box for Include this group in Send/Receive (F9).
Ok, but I have to assume the top bit is online as it doesn't say so. But F9 is already ticked in both blocks.
But ! I see there is no tick in Schedule an automatic send/receive every 5 minutes. Maybe that's the issue. I'll tick that too.

Click Close.
Quit Outlook, and then restart Outlook.
Giving it a try now.

Yes that worked fine. Thanks again.

Now I just have to decide whether it is worth unticking the Redemption Helper Outlook Extension. But it's presently working better than it has for ages.

Brilliant. All seems sorted. Unsure why it coincided with the Fall update though. Thanks again. I think this is solved. I leave it for a short while though in case something crops up.
Thanks again.

PS eM CLient seems to work well with the secondary e-mail account.
