Solved Extra help to choose a new CPU for new PC

Hi all,

I need another help with my new PC.

In my previous thread you helped me to create my new PC.

This week I bought all the parts and today I received the case, the motherboard and the CPU.

Unfortunately the CPU was used, delivered in a piece of cardboard wrapped around bubble wrap with clearly finger prints and other marks on it...

I am returning it, but I need a new CPU and I can't find another AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, I was thinking to move to a AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, keeping all the other parts.

What do you think?

I am open to all possible suggestions.

The 5950X seems to be marginally better, a model with integrated graphics would be preferable for future troubleshooting though.

You can also refer to the support page of the motherboard to make sure the CPU is combatable.

@Pyro sorry for my incompetence, but what do you mean by "model with integrated graphics"? Do you have any suggestions? Without changing the motherboard as I already have it.

@Rustys it is supported but always with the question mark related to the BIOS version, I would like to not update it honestly...

It seems like your board only supports up to 3rd gen processors, unless there is a BIOS update that isn't listed.

That being said, the Ryzen 9 3900X seems like a direct replacement for the 3950X, a bit cheaper too. You could overclock it if you wish to gain that 1-2% performance difference.

It's also important to note that it supports the same 3200MHz ram, so you're good to enable XMP and go for it. :)

Integrated graphics allows your CPU to process display output without a dedicated graphics card, I didn't see any comparable processors that had this option, but keep in mind in the future if you ever need to troubleshoot a graphics card you will need something to replace it with.
