Solved Ethernet not connected

I've never tried port 1 but 2,3,4 have all had issues eventually. The only time it's not been an issue is with the cat5 cable I tried, this stayed connected for over a week, until I substituted with a different cat6 cable to test . It would be odd if 3 ports on router were faulty.

Nothing as far as I know apart from the cat6 is 3m, the cat5 I used was 10m. Not sure if you can reset TV network back to factory without completely factory reset the TV, which I would be reluctant to do unless it is the final thing to try, as I have alot of personalized settings. I will have a look though.

I see,

Have you tried unplugging the modem for a couple minutes and then plugging it back in?

Are there any changes made to the modem? Port forwarding or the like?

Thanks. Yes, I've even factory reset it. It's a pretty standard setup, for an ISP supplied router. Only changes are the splitting of the WiFi bands, and changing DNS servers from ISP to Google ones. Oddly all other devices connected either wired or wireless are fine apart from occasionally dropping my son's phone off WiFi

Can you get me a model # off of the TV?

I can't imagine that a cat 6 cable would cause any issues a cat5 wouldn't, but worst case, if it works like that it is an option.

None of those changes concern me too much, maybe one of the other advisors sees something else though.

Can you get me the router model # as well? Wouldn't hurt to look into that firmware issue as well.

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure why it's acting the way it is, you could try switching that new router in if you want to test it, Sony offers very few troubleshooting techniques for this set, so you might just have to keep plucking away at what it isn't until something gives.

As for the router, they seem to be quite unreliable in terms of display date, no apparent fixes for unwilling updates.

Hopefully some other members can chime in with ideas.

Oddly enough the TV has said there's an update available. I'll take an image of changes and post back. Otherwise I'll change out router. Can't be for too long as wireless is tragic on Plusnet router🤔🤔

at this stage it may be the router or the cable.
the TV was fine for ages with the cat5 but that just may have been good luck, you would need to run it for, say, a month to have real confidence.
if after that period, the TV never had an issue, then yes, cat5 vs cat6 is stuffing you up somehow.
could be the cat6 is unshielded and more prone to EMP interference, could be you snake the cable closer to some power point or heater or something.
if it's cat5e, there is no speed difference between that and cat6, so nothing wrong with staying on cat5 and side stepping all this stress. :)

as to the modem/router - the firmware would be good to apply and the reason why you can't resolved!
and yes, trying another modem would help pinpoint the issue.

Make sure that you get one that is combatable with you ISP modem.

Have personally had no issues with name brands working with modems yet have heard of others that have just bought a router and since it was not on the recommended list they did not work properly.

Thanks @Rustys
Ive have no issues with TP link kit. As I have no modem, it would have to be a combined DSL Modem Router anyway
Im updaing the TV software, as noted above. Ive attached a screengrab of the fixes, nothing about ethernet issues though:confused:
