I recently swapped and relocated my router. I also bought new Cat6 cables for my 3 Ethernet connected devices, a sky q box, Sony android TV, and a powerline adapter.
Since then I've had issues with the TV every couple of days dropping the Ethernet connection, and it being a pain to restore. Sometimes unplugging and plugging in the cable works, reboot TV or reboot router. All other Ethernet devices are fine. I was suspecting the TV had a DHCP lease issue, but I appear to have solved the issue by replacing the Ethernet cable to TV with a cat5e cable and it's been fine. My question is, why would a cat5 cable be fine but a Cat6 not... The other 2 devices are fine on these cables. I was under the impression cat6 was backward compatible. I would be interested in people's opinions, unless it was just a faulty cable 🤔

You bought the same cables for all 3 devices? Try switching them around to see if one of the Cat6 is faulty.

If you were having no issues with the other devices, I would imagine it to be a cable issue.

I've swapped to one of the other cat 6 cables, for the TV connection. It will be a couple of days before I know if it's ok, it took 2to 3 days previously even though DHCP lease time is 5 days. I'll know for certain by Monday.....

I've been checking every day. It's renewed it's lease today according to the router. I'll check If the TV still has a connection later on. Only reason I never suspected the cable was they were all new and the other 2 were working fine, and on a couple of occasions when I swapped ports on the router connection came back up. Lesson for me, always check the simplest things first🤔🤔

The TV is still connected, so barring anything else looks like a cable issue. To be honest the symptoms were a bit odd for a cable issue, I would have assumed the cable would either work or not. I wasn't expecting bizarre connection issues like this, were a router or TV reboot, or even just changing port on router sometimes would make the connection again ..
You live and learn 🤔

Typically as soon as thread closed the issue reoccurs......
Can't really be another cable issue, but it's odd this one stayed connected for longer. A cat5 cable stayed connected. I'm at a loss now. Options I feel are.
1.. switch to a cat5 cable
2.. swap out the router for another one. I'm currently using a BT business hub 6, but I do have my older Plusnet hubq
3.. it's the TV at fault. I have contacted Sony, but they are not very helpful.....asking me to do odd things like connect the TV to my mobile via a hotspot.
4.. give up and use wireless for the TV and see if that works....

Happy if anyone has any other ideas

Just the TV. The sky q box is connected to port 1, with one of the cat6 cables. Never has any issue. I've swapped previously between ports 2 and 4 with the TV, with a cat6 and a cat5 cable. Port 3 was used with the powerline adapter with a cat6 cable previous with no issues. TV was fine till today in port 3, with the cat6 cable previously used for the powerline adapter Swapped to port 2 and again connected fine....
