Solved Dual Monitor Downsized to One Now Get Beeping at Boot

Hello!

So as the title states, I decided to go with just my single (Display Port) widescreen monitor instead of having two. (The old one was DVI) Now every time I turn the PC on it gives me 1 long and 3 short beeps but then posts and acts completely normal. Looking this code up says it's a video problem. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the video drivers. Took my overclock away. Tried re-seating everything and tried using a different DP connection (on the back of video card). I'm almost ready to reset the OS but this machine was all working so good, I hate the thought of doing that. Is there anything else I should try?

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

A very good PSU but GPU drivers that are more than twelve months old could be a problem but there is something real odd about the present drivers that you have installed, note the version number highlighted in red, check the list of older drivers here and you will see that they are not on the list but even more odd is the info at the threads here and here

NVIDIA Display driver update released in July 2019

The beeps are most likely the result of Windows trying to load incompatible drivers and when it goes wrong Windows is using its own generic video drivers which is what is in use when you get up and running.


For you to do;

Create a new folder on the desktop, name it Nvidea drivers.

Download and save to the folder the latest drivers from here

Download DDU from here

Create a new system restore point then run DDU and uninstall all present Nvidea drivers.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode only (No Networking).

Install the new GPU drivers that you saved to the folder on your desktop.

Restart the computer, test then post back with an update for us.

Well crap, it's beeping again! I'm going to go through the machine and check all the connections. It started all of the beeping after moving it up and down stairs. (New carpet upstairs) At the same time as it was downstairs I sold the second monitor, so I just assumed it started because of that. Another odd thing it started doing: the addressable rgb lights go out after booting up? They come on and act right until the machine fully boots and loads everything. Then, after awhile I look over and has the strips have gone out (except for a tiny part on the ends)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

So, this is really weird: Every time I boot the machine with the monitor turned off (with its power switch) I get the 1 long 3 short beeps and MB diagnostic LED stays lit (white for VGA). If I repeat that same process with the monitors power button on (the monitor's in standby) I get no beeping and the white LED goes out.

OMG please tell me this is exactly what should happen and I really have no problem! Is this normal?

I'm going to Google this immediately.

Not stupid at all and you have definitely not wasted anyone's time, not all computer hardware is the same and some may not give out an error beep if the PC boots with the screen turned off.

Glad you got it sorted in any event and thanks for letting us know (y)
