From what i see sda, where Mint is installed is a 20GB ssd.

Where is this 320GB hd and what is its label?

Iam not sure what you mean, iam a Linux newbie. This is exactly how i did this. I got my Brothers Windows 7 laptop i then downloaded Linux Mint Live on a USB i then put the USB in my Acer Laptop and when my Linux Mint desktop appeared i just clicked the icon to install and it installed on this computer it has never been opened up to replace anything, i bought it brand new. My understanding from others my whole hard drive would be Linux not just part of it. Thank,s Chuck

I installed linux once and that was on a computer where I put in a 2nd hard drive. My notes indicate it was in 2009 and I still consider myself a linux newbie.

That's not how I understood it. I ran a live partition manager and specified the sizes I wanted for the linux install, swap file, home partition. Granted things have changed in almost 9 years so the process has probably improved.

Without knowing what the original hardware is. I haven't a clue if the computer has a 20GB ssd and a 320GB other hard drive.

Perhaps before trying to install linux on a new laptop, you should have used Windows for awhile and simply run Mint as a live distro off the USB stick.

I NEVER encourage linux newbies to immediately install a distro on a new computer. If you are new, then you take an old, underpowering and not critical computer if you want to do an install.

I hope you made an image before you installed linux.
