Solved Dimmed Screen on Laptop

I was cleaning my laptop with Alcohol 70%, from screen to keyboard and on the outside. I didn’t exaggerate with the liquid and everything was fine until i shut it down, and later that day when I wanted to use the laptop again, as I turned it on the screen was so dimmed that you could only see what’s on the screen with a flash light. I then took it to a PC service and after inspection he told me that it was Ribbon Cable connector. That it began to melt and the screen is fried, but NO motherboard damage. Then he suggested me to replace this monitor with new one and a new ribbon cable, which would cost a lot, almost as a the laptop I bought. “I asked him about the screen that’s still working but the brightness is just low” He said that it doesn’t have the backlight because there was a short circuit on the connector of the ribbon cable that regulates the brightness and that’s why it doesn’t work. Now I know that these guys are experts and have to make money that’s why I don’t usually trust them. But what do you think? Do I have to replace the whole monitor and the ribbon cable? Or should I seek somebody else to try and repair it. Thanks

You have post on a tech assistance forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to even hazard a guess as to what is going on.

What is the exact model name or number of the computer.

As you haven't mentioned it we need to ask if you have tried pressing the Fn and F12 keys down at the same time to increase the brightness.

If the above has been done but no luck, you are going to have to partially dismantle the notebook to get to the video cable, there are plenty of videos available + there is a Dell user manual available, see here
