Today I was using my PC and I was just about to do something and whenever I know I'm not going to use my PC for longer than 10 minutes I like to put it to sleep. So I put it to sleep as always and then, as I always do, when I wanted to use it again I tapped the power button. However, this time, it didn't seem to want to wake up. I did this multiple times but it wouldn't wake up. I figured the most likely problem is the wire connecting the power button to the motherboard probably came loose (I know it had power because I have a light on the front of my case which flickers when it's sleeping). I check and all my wires were connected just as they were supposed to be. So I just pushed the power button one in a bit just in case but it still didn't work.
Since it didn't turn on I moved on to Plan B which is the part that worries me. I decided to just flick the switch on PSU off and on because I remember the old saying 'have you tried turning it off and on again?' Well, it worked but when I turned my PC on I realized it was taking some time to respond to my requests. I would click on URLs and it wouldn't let me start typing for a few seconds or so and whenever I clicked on anything it took a lot longer than usual to respond. I quickly opened up Task Manager and I saw that disk was being used at 100%. It has since gone down to its regular 5-6% but I'm curious if turning off my PC like that could cause some sort of permanent damage to my HDD. My laptop appears to be operating very slowly in the same way and it all started after it was forcibly turned off while sleeping.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks.
