I have a Dell Optiplex 745 with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 with four gigs of RAM. I am trying to update it to the latest BIOS update on Dells website. Here is the link
https://www.dell.com/support/home/e...rid=cynpx&oscode=ww1&productcode=optiplex-745. I keep getting this error message Program Payload Error. I was able to update the BIOS before this one fine. I think it is 2.6.4 Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thankyou for responding. I want to update the BIOS so I can update the CPU to a Core 2 Duo Q6700. I heard you had to update to this BIOS to upgrade the CPU. Thanks for the help.

Not sure, did you get an error code?

Have you checked out this article on the Dell resource database? It goes through everything very well, you can look over it and see if you missed any steps by mistake.

I saw some people saying similar issues were solved by restarting the computer (not during the BIOS update obviously) and then running the .exe file as administrator.

Thanks for the help. I did not receive a error code. It just says Program Payload Error. It tells me to restart, but I am still getting the same error message. I did the administrator and he does not work either. I watched this youtube video on how to run any program as administrator with Windoes XP and I still get the same error message. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm not sure to be honest, there's not much on this particular model of computer or problem that I can find, you could try re-downloading the update, but I'm not all to familiar with BIOS flashing.

Hopefully one of the other members can chime in with their input.

oh, ninja'd by Pyro. :)

I would also download the firmware update again in case it got corrupted.
knowing Dell, it'll be one of their proprietary boards, but check who makes the motherboard and if not Dell, go to their website and try to download the BIOS firmware from there instead.

and double check the firmware your motherboard make/model and the BIOS update are a perfect match, if not, "there be dragons"! (y)

in the description of that BIOS version, Dell simple says it "maintains overall system health".
which is useless.
go to the Dell website and enter your Service Tag, that way you know you will be getting the right drivers for your specific model.

I tried doing a DOS USB Key. I am still getting the same message.
Program Payload Error
An error was encounted trying to access the flash program's data image, please reboot and try again. If this error re-occurs, please contact technical help.
Current BIOS Version is 2.6.4
Thanks again for the help and hope this is not a major error.

You can use win 10
it is just to confirm the file matches the file at dell - You do have the dell checksum don't you?
