deleted contact problem

Sadly a friend of mine passed away so I tried delete him from my contact list
Yet when I go into contacts on my phone the e-mail address and his name appear with a strange ;-

"& amp;amp;amp;amp; "............etc before and after his details

When I go into contacts on my android phone the same appears (at latest count 263 times!!) and I have tried deleting (in groups and individually many times ) but each time they come back when I switch on !

Duplication is no problem-nor in some cases trplicate --I just use contact delete and it removes one or more as chosen but his one entry will not and its accompanied by "amp" "&" "# " and the number "39" in numerous entries prior to entries under A in the alphabetical listings

Driving me mad especially after deleting the entry individually 263 times -it saying contact deleted each time until theyve all gone - and then they all appear once more over 200 times idenitical

Ive also tried linking several entries and then deleting one --but same end result- and deleting multiples by ticking the select box and deleting selected --but once more they reappear
Anyone able to help please Would be greatly appreciated

Phone is Motorola Moto G4 running Android v 7 Security patch 1-4-18
(but hopefully your instructions arent too technical as in this respect I`m as thick as a.....................brick!!
Would be bad enough his name number and e-mail address but with all the other trimmings .........and 236 times at latest count !!!

Try this:
On your Moto G4:
1. Settings > Apps > Application List and tap on the Contacts app. On the following screen, tap on Storage followed by Clear Cache. It will remove all the cache files of the Contacts app on your phone.
2. Settings > Accounts > Google > [your account] and turn the toggle for Contacts to the OFF position. It will disable contact syncing on your phone.
2. Delete one, several or all of the contacts.
3. Turn sync back on by turning the toggle for Contacts to the ON position.

tried your suggestion fella as described
Didnt have to clear cache though --nothing in there

carried on and deleted 356 repeats( yes a new record!!) of wierd contact entries of his name --but on switching on today its back to where we were and as yet havent bothered to count how many this time!

deleted them by selecting the box against each and they went but now all back again in same corrupt looking format !!

Aaaaaagh!!

Hopes this helps and sorry about your loss.

You may also need to do this on any where else you may have the contacts backed up to.

Your phone backs up your contacts to your Google account correct?

Why not log into your Google account and under contacts see if deleting them form there helps.

You may also need to delete the form the phone.
