Solved Cpu or hard disk drive issue?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi guys,

My PC can't get to Windows home screen even after re-installing both Windows 7 and 10 a few times. I'm getting errors like Windows file is corrupt every time. I'm pretty the culprit is either the CPU or hard drive because my motherboard new and RAM is around a year old.

Sample errors:
c0000221 unknown hard error\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

windows boot configuration

I am installing them from dvd installers. I installed one after the other because same issues persist. I was able to use the PC normally for hours on Win 7, but after a power cycle, it cannot boot again. So I installed Win 10, but it cannot even boot to OS. So I tried Win 7 again but it no longer booted to OS. Then the next attempts just got worse.

where did the install for Windows 7 and 10 come from

Have you delete the previous installs and partitions
Have you tried to install just Windows 7 and the see if it stays working. You are aware that Microsoft will no longer be patching/updating Windows 7 after January 14, 2020

Make and Model of the system and Power Supply plus age

Have yo tried to reset the RAM and HDD and the DVD drive both power and data cables.

Sorry for the delay guys.

I have installed Windows 10 to a 32Gb usb drive and I was able to use my PC normally except that it won't completely shut down when I select shut down. The display would turn off but the System unit keeps on running until I manually press the power button on the tower

Have you installed the chipset drivers for the MB.

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Thanks for your help guys. The PC is working fine now after I have installed a new hard drive and installed the OS on that hard drive. Though I have the feeling that the graphics card would fail next. We lived next to the river before and I know the moisture in the air is bad for electrical components. I think we can close this thread?
