Solved CPU-LED on after BIOS update

Hi.

I recently tried updating my motherboard's bios. I am using a MSI B450 Gaming Plus with a Ryzen 5 2600. I downloaded the newest bios file from MSI's website, extracted the file and then copied the bios file onto a empty FAT32 8GB usb flash drive. I then turned off my pc, booted it up again and entered bios to use M-Flash. After the bios had completed the update, the system booted normally with the MSI logo on my screen and a text saying something in the lines of "Wait, while we repair your PC" or "Prepairing automatic repair". Shortly after the CPU light on my motherboard turned on and i got a "no signal" message on my screen.

I tried resetting the cmos by removing the cmos battery. It didn't work. I also tried removing the RAM sticks and reinstalling them but that did nothing either. The power button on the case wasn't doing anything, so I turned off the power switch on my PSU. I booted up the PC again by turning the PSU power switch back on and then pressing the power button on my case. I tried entering the bios, and manged to get in. I turned the A-XMP profile on, because by booting on default settings from the bios didn't work. A-XMP turned on I managed to to get the system running, but I experienced a lot of crashes especielly in Warzone 2.0 (might be due to the game also) and in other applications aswell such as Google Chrome. It got me wondering that the bios update might have gone "wrong" somehow.

I did everything again as I did before and got the same results. I even tried updating the bios to an older version, and got it to work with the same method as I described earlier. The I remembered the bios flash button on the motherboard, and decided to give it a go. I copied the new bios file onto the USB drive again and renamed it MSI.ROM, as instructed on MSI's website. I turned my system off and plugged in the USB drive to the bios-flash port on the motherboard. I then pressed the flash button and waited while the system updated. My monitor turned on saying "Diagnosing your PC" and didn't change from there for the next hour. The screen was completely frozen. I did everyting again and got past the "diagnosing" phase, only to be greeted by the red CPU-LED again.

Sorry for the long post, but if you have any tips or ideas on this, please let me know.
Thanks.

Edit: I got my system running by entering the bios and turning on A-XMP. I am still wondering if I did the update right because it seems a little fishy to me. I will not touch my bios for a while after this. If it works it works. Might have to look into it again if the crashes keep happening again. So all good?

Lesson learned I hope espenerve

I recently tried updating my motherboard's bios.

Can I ask why ?

The BIOS is off limits for the most part and you should only ever consider flashing the BIOS for two reasons, to solve a known issue that the BIOS update is intended to fix and if it is required to be able upgrade the CPU,

Oh, ok. I actually did have a problem I wanted to solve with the updated bios. The software for my RAM (G.Skill trident Z) hasn't been working ever since i updated my system to Windows 11. At first I didn't really care because I could control the memory's RGB lighting with an alternative software. I prefer the G.Skill software, so I thought I'd look into it again. I last tried messing with the RGB software somewhere in the beginning of 2022, and thought that the problem might have been fixed since then. Well, it wasn't and I still couldn't get the software to work, so I decided to give the bios update a go. I didn't really think that the update could do any harm, so thanks for letting me know.

And yes, lesson learned :/

To keep in mind for the future, the BIOS is pre Windows and once Windows has successfully loaded the BIOS hands control over and has nothing more to do with the proceedings, short version, the BIOS has zero to do with the RGB or any other software and you are fortunate that this has not ended badly as in a bricked MB.

Take care.
