Solved CPU high usage

Hello, let me start off by saying that English isn't my main language so sorry if there's alot of grammar mistakes : P

My problem is that my CPU usage is 100 almost all the time, its normal when nothing is open but as soon as I open any program it goes to 100% no matter if it's Firefox or any game or even discord, another thing that I noticed is that when for example I watch something on YouTube and don't move my mouse or don't do anything the cpu usage is normal but as soon as I hover the cursor over anything the cpu usage goes very up high. Same with some games, when I don't do anything ans nothing is loading in game it's semi normal but when I start moving in game or do something it goes up.

Let me tell u how it started, everything was fine with my pc, but I moved the computer somewhere else cause I didn't like where it was, and after that I noticed that when I played Rust or guild wars 2 for more then my pc my monitor would go black blank, and I wasn't able to do anything even tho I could still the game sounds, so someone told me it could be becaouse My motherboard pc fan isn't working so I turned off the pc took the fan out ,tried to fix it and it and put it back in computer but fan still didn't work afterwards , and that's when the CPU usage problems started happening. I wasn't able to turn on any game or do anything cause it was just too slow etc. So I have completely formatted pc and 're installed Windows case I thought maybe it's one of the programs causing it. But even after that it's still been the same with the CPU usage. And now I'm stuck not sure what to do anymore.

My pc is very old btw it's like 5+ years old and the motherboard fan hasn't been working since like 3 years but it's been always fine until now :/

Also I forgot to add that I tried restarting bios didn't help, I even downloaded process explorer program and it shows that it's always normal until I open any programs and they are the ones that cause all the CPU usage.

Also some info on your machine would held, please follow this guide and get us a Speccy report. Please note there is NO personal info contained in that report.

Please go HERE and download the portable version of Speccy. Save it to somewhere you can find, locate the file and as it comes as a Zip file use your favorite unzip application to decompress it. Open the newly created folder and double left click Speccy.exe if you have a 32 bit system or Speccy64.exe if yours is 64bit. If you are not sure what your system is click HERE.

Speccy will open and after a short wait will display a summary of your system specs.
  1. Click on the file menu.
  2. Then click Publish snapshot.

A dialogue box will ask you to confirm, select yes.

  1. Click Copy to Clipboard.
  2. Then click Close.

Now that your link has been copied please paste it into your next post. It should look something like the example below:)

BTW: once you have finished with speccy and no longer want it removing it is easy because it is a portable app with no install. Simply delete the downloaded file and folder you created when you decompressed it. Gone:thumbsup:

Hi Tom2, you may very well have more than 1 issue with your machine but firstly if the CPU fan is not working you will never have a PC that will work efficiently so we should address that problem first. To make sure your fan is faulty can you unplug the fan cpu connector and plug the connector onto the chassis fan or PWR fan connector socket. If there is already another fan plugged into that socket just temporarily disconnect it. Boot your computer and see if the CPU fan works. If the fan still doesn't work the CPU fan has died. If the fan does work you have a motherboard CPU connector fan problem, but let's cross that bridge later if necessary.

If you find your fan is dead, purchase another one and ensure all the old thermal paste is removed from both the CPU and the heatsink before fitting it. This video shows how to remove, clean and refit the fan and heatsink. It's a pretty crappy video but shows the important stuff.

Hi, I just unplugged it and plugged onto those two other spots that u told me and the fan still didn't work with either of them, it would still twitch like once every 20 secounds just like before.

Also did what he said to do in that video and it's still the same


**** im stiupid, I removed the thermal thing, is it possible that pc will work even worse now without it? Cause it does feel like that

If you removed the heat sink (thermal thing) ...you will need to clean it and apply new thermal paste to it and that will involve cleaning the cpu as well.. You can clean it with rubbing/isopropyl alcohol using some clean tissue or a soft cloth. With the paste you will need to apply a thin layer,about as thin as a credit card or thinner. If some paste oozes out you must clean the access paste up. So you know to much paste is as bad as not having any at all. Also without the heat sink (on) it is advisable not to use/power up... the pc at all until this issue is fixed.

Damnit.. Yeah I already remove all that thermal paste and pretty sure I don't have any at home, so u think I shouldn't turn pc at all without thermal paste until I get some?
