Hi Guys!

I've been having this problem for a while, i've ran most tests and diagnostics but i can't seem to solve it.

I've cleaned my cpu to ensure no dust and re-seated it in the socket.
I've removed and re-added the CMOS battery.
I've tried booting with 1 ram stick instead of 2.

Does anyone have any ideas? cheers!

to clarify, your PC starts but there is no signal on the screen?

have you tried removing the graphics card and plugging the monitor into the mobo ports (if applicable)?
have you tried different ports and different cables?

My PC fans start. Then my motherboards CPU EZ Debug Light shines.

I've tried this but still no signal, removing the gpu didnt work either :/

so you removed the GPU card and plugged a monitor into the motherboards HDMI or DisplayPort port?
that would rule out the card and cables.
and you have cleaned and reseated the CPU and RAM.
did you wipe the RAM contacts and the mobo slot?
did you try putting the RAM into other slots?

I've reseated all the components, ram and cpu.

I've contacted suppliers because it could be a faulty cpu but I'm not sure.

Any more tests I could carry out potentially? Cheers :)

On your motherboard, there are four LED's in the EZ Debug Section. Is the CPU one the only one that ever lights up? What RAM slot do you have your single stick installed in? According to the manual, it should be installed in slot A2. However, trying each slot individually would also be a prudent test as Bruce mentioned before. Also, this computer used to work fine right? This isn't a fresh build correct?

Also, just to clarify, this CPU does not contain onboard graphics, so you will not be able to get video output from the motherboard ports, you will need a discreet GPU (Like the one you have listed in your specs) for testing video output.

I've tried with and without GPU, both cases are the same with no HDMI output. When GPU is plugged in there is still not HDMI output.

I've tried installing them individually but the error still occurs.. I'm seeing what my supplier says

Just to reiterate, it is not possible to get video output from this motherboard's video output ports with this processor. The only way to get video output from this setup is with a graphics card video port because this processor does not have onboard graphics.

You also didn't address my other questions: Was this build working fine and then all of a sudden it stopped working or is this a build you just put together and it has never worked?
Also on your EZ Debug LED's is the CPU LED the only one that ever lights up??? Not the DRAM VGA or BOOT correct?

Thanks for the reply,

Yes, the PC build was new, I played age of empires for around 4 hours until it crashed and then didn’t turn on. (I probably should have addressed this, sorry)

The CPU LED on the Ez debug is the only led lit when powered on. I once booted without RAM to do some tests and the DRAM light comes and not the CPU light.

Right now when I boot up the PC the only LED that lights up is the CPU, not dram, vga or boot. I really appreciate the help.

Thank you for answering my questions.
Okay, so yes, it is looking most likely to be the CPU or the MOBO. I know you said that you have done the CMOS battery removal, but could you humor me and try it again like this:
Remove power cable. Remove CMOS battery. Press and hold power button for 10 seconds. Leave disconnected for 10 minutes. Then come back and put in the CMOS battery. Then connect power and cross your fingers and power on.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi!

So I followed your instructions, unfortunately, the same error still occurs.

I also found that when I power on my PC, the PSU fan starts but then eventually stops spinning after a few seconds.

Here's a video of it:

The RM series PSU's are designed to do that. It's a silent operation mode, the fan only turns on when it is needed. I personally am typing you this message from a unit with a RM1000 that also used to have a RM850. Both had the same operation. Very good PSUs if you ask me.

Side note, that CPU fan is going a million miles an hour. It may be like that because it's not making it past the CPU portion of the POST. Useful information to retain for later down the road.

Another thing to check is to make sure the 8 pin and the 24 pin connectors are FRIMLY seated. Also verify that your CPU power is coming from the right place on the PSU since this is a fully modular PSU . It's rare but I've seen people hook up GPU power to the CPU before. Try this again with the M.2 out and try it with just the RAM stick in the A2 slot. Also, what RAM are you running? I don't see that anywhere in previous posts.

Well back to the original issue at hand, it looks to me that either your CPU is bad or the Motherboard is bad. If you have a buddy with any Ryzen processor (Since you have a second gen board that will work with any 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen processor except maybe the Ryzen 9's if it's never had a BIOS update) who would let you use it to test, that would be my next step after what I mentioned above.

So I just tested it out again, ensuring all connectors are firmly seated and the CPU cable is plugged into the right PSU slot, removed the M.2 and used just the A2 slot. Sadly no luck again.

I'm using 16gb corsair vengeance 3200Mhz ddr4 RAM. I'll see I could potentially test in someone else's system but I doubt they'll let me.

Also recently tonight I've noticed flicker of the led lights when powering on, not sure if this is important but the VGA, dram, and boot come on for a split second on power-on and on power-off.

So, MSI's site is currently down, but I'm fairly certain that RAM is supported with that CPU/Motherboard combo. I remember because I was trying to run that RAM on my MSI X470 Motherboard with a 2600x and I saw that it wasn't supported but that it was supported with the 3000 series processors I almost upgraded to a 3600 when I decided to go with an older X99 server style Intel system. All the lights coming on at first and when shutting down is normal. My X470 did the same thing.

Well at this point my friend, I think your issue is going to be either the motherboard or the processor. Me personally I'm leaning more towards the motherboard, but I have little concrete evidence to support this. The CPU fan going at full blast has been more of an indicator of a motherboard problem for me in the past, but that could also be because it isn't POSTing, its hard for me to say. As I said I would try a different processor in your unit or your processor in another unit. This will help us isolate which part is bad. If either of these scenarios isn't possible, the CPU would be the easier part to send out for RMA. Just for grins, would you happen to have another power supply laying around? Highly unlikely but not impossible that your PSU could not be putting out enough juice and is defective.

Also - a moot point - the AMD logo side of the CPU fan you're using should be on the other side of the CPU because the AMD part blocks that first RAM slot.

To check if my PSU was being defective I used my old PSU which was a Corsair CX500 which turned on sufficiently but it was giving the same results.

When I first built this PC around 2 weeks ago the CPU stock cooler fan was really annoying as it sounded like a jet engine going from 0 to full blast every 10 seconds, which is why I purchased a dark rock pro 4 fan instead because my PC was getting very hot when playing some games.

I'm starting to think its a motherboard problem too because I cannot see any physical problems to my cpu, the gold pins are fine and I haven't been overclocking at all.

I'll try and get into contact with msi when they're site is back up. Really appreciate the support

Glad to be of service, please make sure to get back to us and let us know the results so that we can add to our knowledge and mark this thread as solved once you're back up and running again. (y)
