Hey people,

really get fed up with this now.

Story is, my PC will not allow a stable connection through WIFI.

I have tried multiple devices, including USB WIFI dongle, and now a fully installed Intel WIFI card.

They both worked brilliantly for a few weeks and then out of nowhere the connection is lost.

When I run the troubleshoot it tells me its the router, when this is not true because all other devices connect fine, such as tablet, phones and laptops.

I have trawled and trawled the internet for resolutions but unable to trace anything!!

This really is starting to hack me off big time.

PC setup:

Windows 10
ASUS Prime Motherboard
GeForce 1060 6GB GPU
Intel 9700k CPU
Frostbite Water Cooling
1TB Seagate Hard-drive

Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 160MHz (drivers fully up to date via the intel website - current version is 21.80.2.1 date 25/02/20)

All pc drivers are up to date.

Has anyone seen or experienced this with any viable solutions ?

Thanks for your time.
P

To start lets get more information on you system this does not include information on the power supply which we will also need.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

How far are you from the signal?
What does the signal have to pass through?
Are there other WiFi signal around and what channel are you broadcasting on?
Using 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz and if you were to use the other does this still happen?

Hey Rusty, thank you for a prompt response.

I have speccy installed, which data would you like from it as it has a fair chunk.

To answer a few questions in the meantime:

- the wifi is practically below me in the front room - so effectively through the ceiling and thats it.
- how would i be able to check wifi channels?
- channel width appears to be auto

cheers

When I get home where I can see this better will have better information for you. In the mean time are there other WiFi signal near you and at what strength?

One thing I do see is that you Hard drive is pretty full

Partition 0
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #0
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 747EB36B
Size: 931 GB
Used Space: 877 GB (94%)
Free Space: 53 GB (6%)

You should keep about 20% or you C: drive free for it to preform properly and handle updates.

Thank you.

I have a laptop behind me that has 3 out of 4 signal bars.

Yes I know the hard drive is getting full, and something I have been meaning to look at.

Im fairly confident this wouldnt impact WIFI connectivity, all updates from Windows have been installed as far as i can tell.

Catch up in a bit.

Thanks

Found this on Speccy, not sure if its in the full info I sent over:

Wi-Fi Info
Using native Wi-Fi API version 2
Available access points count 1
Wi-Fi (TALKTALK103120)
SSID TALKTALK103120
Frequency 5180000 kHz
Channel Number 36
Name TALKTALK103120
Signal Strength/Quality 99
Security Enabled
State The interface is connected to a network
Dot11 Type Infrastructure BSS network
Network Connectible
Network Flags Currently Connected to this network
Cipher Algorithm to be used when joining this network AES-CCMP algorithm
Default Auth used to join this network for the first time 802.11i RSNA algorithm that uses PSK

This is a snapshot whilst the PC is connected to the router, but no internet available.

Do you have your network configures where each device is configured with is own specific network IP address or they Dynamic

Is it loosing the network connection or the internet connection

Using 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz and if you were to use the other does this still happen?
What is the make and model of the Modem and Router?

When it looses the connection is it erratic and or at certain times

Open the Administrator Command Prompt and type the following commands (exactly as you see them) and press enter after each one.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int reset all
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh int ipv6 reset
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh advfirewall reset
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state ON

Reboot the computer and see if this has helped the stability.

You could also attempt a Clean Boot

Hey Rustys thanks for the reply, ill try and go through each point as mentioned;

- so it loses internet connection, not WIFI connection. so effectively it says i am connected to the router but no internet signal can get through
- the only make i could find for the router was Sagemcom?
- the connection can be anytime with no pattern, rhyme or reason
- 'netsh int reset all' command could not be found, all others went through fine. ill restart and report. out of curiosity, what are all those commands for?

They reset network setting.

What were the results of the clean boot?

Have you rebooted the modem?

Do you have any of the security settings configured in the modem?

They reset network setting.

Clean boot yielded no different results. Yes I have tried rebooting the router numerous times to no avail and in terms of security settings, I haven't changed anything from the original.

It's such a baffling issue I am having

@Evan Omo would you mind putting a second look at this thanks.

Just to confirm do you have a modem and a router or a just a modem?

When you put in the new WiFi device you did remove the old one and software?
Should not make a difference yet windows is windows.

Hare you tried removing the network references in Device Manager?

To remove them use the information under Step One B In Speeding Up Your Internet Connection. Uninstalling Your Network Drivers. with in this resource.

While in Device Manager go under View and select Show Hidden Devices.

We suggest that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

If the system was close enough would suggest try connecting via cable directly to the modem to see if the same thing happens.

Hey there, many thanks for your response.

1- I have a router only, provided by Talk Talk with the internet
2. the same issue was happening with the 1st wifi device, so i don't think adding the 2nd was the issue. plus the 1st was a wifi dongle
3. Step One B is just renewing the drivers, I already have the latest drivers for this device, but again, the issue was present in both wifi devices so I dont think drivers are the problem as both were running on latest drivers (windows is also fully up to date)
4. My pc is a gaming rig which is overclocked already and power management not an issue
5. internet is fine when connected via ethernet so its definitely a wifi issue.

thank you
p

Two things else to try.
1. Create a second user to see if this still happens this would tell us that there is an issue with the primary user.
2. Remove the over clocking and run stock and renew and refresh the drives and see if it makes a difference.
When a system is overclocked it can make it unstable.

Hello and thank you for your response

1. It happens on mine and my gf account so it's not limited to a single account.
2. This issue was happening when my overclock was taken back to stock, about 3 weeks ago, because I was having overheating issues with the pc.

Like today it was working for about 30mims and then for no reason it just stops Internet. Still connected, but no Internet.

It's so random

Thanks.
