Constant freeze ups using chrome browser

I leave my computer on all the time. About 2 weeks ago, there was a very brief power outage that booted my computer. Unplugged it, reconnected and started computer. Did a restart because it wasn't working properly, and that took about an hour to complete. Now it takes me 2-3 minutes to open wsj.com (for example), or the system just freezes completely. If I wait 5-10 minutes, the problem fixes itself, but I am still prone to freezeups (handups?). Any suggestions for diagnosing the cause and fixing it?

I have been trying for the last 24 hours to diagnose my problem. At one point, I had no internet connection. As I sit here, everything seems to be working as before. Thanks to everyone who read my plea for help.
