I have been (for quite some time now) finding my XPS 15 9570 series computer to run games unbearably badly. My system specs are listed below.
- Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
- 16GB RAM (15.7GB available) - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design
- (Integrated Graphics: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630)
I understand the XPS series has a reputation for not being particularly reliable for playing games. Additionally I have a 4k display on this laptop, but for all the examples I provide here I have used 1920x1080 display, along with enabling "Overide High DPI scaling behaviour" to be performed by application, as this saw the highest overall frame rate boost.
However playing the below games (with Recommended, NOT minimum specifications) I see the following results.
Risk of Rain 2:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7 or newer, 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
Memory: 4 GB RAM Graphics: GTX 680 / AMD HD 7970
Experience: On minimum video settings I cannot exceed 30fps, regularly dropping below 20.
Minecraft:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690 | AMD A10 7800 or equivalent.
RAM: 8 GB RAM. HDD: 4 GB (SSD recommended) available space.
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 700 Series | AMD Radeon Rx 200 Series.
OS: 64-bit Windows 10.
Experience: Using a frame boosting Optifine mod to boost fps further, as well as lowering render distance to 4 (Default is 12), I average 40fps.
I have updated all of my drivers prior to these tests, as well as ensuring my Nvidia GPU is being used over my Integrated Graphics. Any Anti-Virus was disabled, Ge-Force Experience was uninstalled by recommendation of my friend, any other windows closed.
Any advice or help on this would be greatly appreciated.
