Recently I have been having a problem with my computer. At least once a day, my computer freezes and the audio sometimes glitches out. The audio drags on what it was playing at the time of the freeze. It started around the time that I had just installed a new hard drive into my computer. Also, Sometimes, the computer blue screens after freezes and comes with the report called: DPC_WATCHDOG_REPORT.

I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and It came back with not problems. I also use BlueScreenView and it said the dirver that caused the crash was ntoskrnl.exe.

I got this computer in early May of 2021. I got a prebuilt computer from lenovo's line of gaming computers called legion. The exact one I got was the Legion Tower i5 Gaming Desktop with the RTX 2060.

I use this Computer everyday. Please help me. If there is anymore info that I need to supply, I will.

Lets get the DUMP files so they can assist you

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

Dmps more than two days old are of no use, your last BSOD Stop Code was generated a week ago, the problem drivers were for your GPU and that issue looks to have been resolved.

At least once a day, my computer freezes and the audio sometimes glitches out.

That is typical behaviour of something overheating.

Make sure that the Windows Power Plan is set as Balanced and not High Performance, if it is set to Balanced the best thing that you can do is contact the merchant from where you purchased the PC, you cannot start tinkering with anything inside of the case as doing so would void your warranty.

To add to what has been stated what is the make and model of the power supply unit.

Most pre built systems come with one that is just barley enough to run the system and once under a load start to crap out.
The make model for my computer's PSU is FSP650-70ALA it is 650 W and 80 Plus Gold. To add on to this, the computer mostly only freezes when I start watching a video, or I play a game.

I set it to balanced just now. Before, it was on lenovo default, which i think was on high preformance. Also, I believe that after I updated my graphics drivers, i did not get the blue screen anymore. I forgot to add this in my original post, but the freezing sometimes happens for several seconds and sometimes it freezes entirely, leaving me with the only option to shut down the comupter through the power button.

Which is when the PSU gets put under load, FSP many years back made some good PSUs but what they make now are garbage, there is also the matter of the poor design of the Lenovo computer which forces the PSU to suck in hot air from inside of the case, read the review here

I would be returning this computer as it is not something that you can put right yourself without being out of pocket.

I see. But a few questions I have are:

- Why did this only start happening after I installed my new hard drive? Could I have messed something up inside while installing it?
- Why does the computer only crash once a day if this is the problem? I've had this since May, and I have never had this problem.
- I recently moved and the computer was in the hands of the moving company, could they have possibly damaged something and made this happen?
- Are there any ways to fix this without rearanging the whole pc/ returning it?
- And does using the power button to shut down the PC harm it?
- I sometimes see that some people have to rearange the fans because they were facing the wrong way, could this also be the problem?

I have no plan of returning this computer at the time being, unless it becomes a real problem.

I will answer what I see as being relevant, Russ may wish to answer the other/s.

Can`t say for sure as we have no idea as to what may have gone on.

The lack of crash dmps means that the PC is not crashing, see my canned explanation below;

Software such as Windows can crash and when it does crash you get a BSOD and when enabled a crash dmp is generated, programs or games when they crash can on occasion close to the desktop but the computer will still be 100% functional.

Hardware failure such as a weak power supply and/or overheating are not software related and when a computer for example suddenly turns off or freezes etc the behaviour should be described as the "computer shut down unexpectedly" or froze and not as having crashed as the latter implies a software issue as opposed to an obvious hardware issue when described properly.

Having the correct info means that helpers will not be looking for a software issue when the problem is clearly hardware related.

- And does using the power button to shut down the PC harm it?

It will cause Windows to become corrupt which to begin with can cause start up and shut down issues then finally a non booting system.

- I recently moved and the computer was in the hands of the moving company, could they have possibly damaged something and made this happen?
I would not put the blame on them sometimes shipping a computer and cause something to come loose. Not every thing is screwed or tied down.
Could be something as a loose cable. I have had systems that have arrived and had to reseat a drive or cable that came loose during transport.

Honestly what if you transported the system and the something happened.

- I sometimes see that some people have to rearange the fans because they were facing the wrong way, could this also be the problem?
Could be yet with out knowing what they temps are it is hard to say.

The bigger question here is why are you shutting it down form the poser button and not using the shut down command for the windows start menu?

Like Phil has stated that will create file corruption.

- Why did this only start happening after I installed my new hard drive? Could I have messed something up inside while installing it?
You may have hit a cable and move (something) it just enough that it is not making a proper connection.

The bigger question here is why are you shutting it down form the poser button and not using the shut down command for the windows start menu?
I always use the shut down command for the windows start menu. But when my computer freezes, I have no other option but to use the power button to turn it off. Is there a better solution to this? Maybe a keyboard command?

You may have hit a cable and move (something) it just enough that it is not making a proper connection.
I just opened up the pc and checked if everything was fine. It seemed to be but im not to knowledgable in this field so im not sure. If needed, i can send a picture.

Also, I have to add, thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Not a problem

Unless Phil has anything to add I would also suggest that you contact the manufacture if there is any warranty that way you are not out of pocket.

Have you tried a creating a different user in Windows and log in there to see if the same thing happens?

According to the lenovo software that came with my pc, it stated that I have a warranty that ranges until May of next year.

Also, I jsut check Reliability Monitor and it said that everytime my computer froze, a program called IAStorDataSvc had something to do with it.

You voided any warranty when you opened up the computer to fit the new hard drive..

Also, I jsut check Reliability Monitor and it said that everytime my computer froze, a program called IAStorDataSvc had something to do with it.

Not a program, it relates to Intel Rapid Storage Technology which in turn is do do with SSDs.

Make sure that your storage device drivers are up to date.

NB: IAStorDataSvc drivers have no bearing on the type of behaviour that you describe.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Include the make and model of the Power Supply Unit if this is a Desktop.

Bonjour

McAfee
McAfee product removal tool (MCPR) info

Make sure that you have the key so you can reinstall should you wish to.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

Driver Easy

You should always got tot he system manufacture or hardware manufacture to get the proper drives.
