Computer been resetting for four whole days

Hi im from australia,
A few days ago i decided to reset my pc to clean off all the gunk and stupid files i had that i forgot about and hopefully remove some viruses as it was slower than it used to be.
I reset the computer with a youtube video guiding me and left it waiting for it to be finished. it has been on 99% for the past 4 days and im not sure if i need to do something specific to complete it or if i should just wait like the videos ive seen about windows 10 pcs resetting for very long. or if anyone could let me know if theres a chance it is broken or whatever could make this happen besides it just taking a while.

if you have been waiting at 99% for four days then there is a very good chance something is broken.
the question is what???

you are going to have to restart the PC for starters.
did you create a bootable USB stick with the latest Win10 image on it by using the Windows Media Creation Tool?
and I assume because you have already started down this path that you have all your personal data backed up?

so reboot it and see what it says.
when you told it to reset your PC, how did you start that process, from a bootable USB stick or from with Windows itself?

i started the reset from windows settings, i dont have a bootable usb stick as of current but i have a windows 11 laptop which i can create one from somehow. any tips on how to do this and what would me using windows settings to reset it change?

running the 'reset Windows' process from within Windows is an 'over the top' install and does things slightly differently than a reset from an external medium.

download the Windows Media Creation Tool and run it.
from it, you can create a bootable USB stick with the latest Win10 build on it.

put that stick in your PC, making sure the stick becomes the first boot device so the PC boots from it and that will start the install process from scratch.
one of the first windows that you'll get is a list a partitions already on the PC, I would remove them all and continue, letting the install process decide the best setup options.
this way you really will be installing onto a clean slate.

overnight i let it continue until it was a black screen in the morning, the monitors are both off and flashing no display present while the computer is still showing it is on, ie lights and fans are all on. Does this indicate that the process is finished or would it be wise to wait it out or should i turn it off and create a bootable usb and restart the process?

sounds like the PC has gone into sleep mode.
if tapping the keyboard or moving the mouse doesn't wake things up, press the power button which should poke it in the ribs.
you aren't going to know what state the install is in until you can see the screen.

but no install takes more than, say, 30 minutes, so yeah - you have a problem somewhere.

Do you have any data you need to get off this computer? If yes then make a ubuntu bootable usb or dvd

Copy your data to an external drive or another computer/nas.

Insert the usb or cd/dvd and boot your system. You may have to change bios settings to boot from the usb or cd/dvd (every computer is different) We can help with this.

When the computer boots choose TRY UBUNTU and let the system boot.

When booted look on the left-hand side of the screen and click on Files icon

Then click on Other Locations (bottom of list)

Click on your drive for example Win 7

Click on Users Icon

Click on your name listed under users

You should now see your data e.g Documents Pictures etc.

Copy your data to an external drive or another computer/nas.

When finished Click on the shutdown icon in the top right-hand corner Click on Power Off
