Solved Can't boot from USB?

Status
Not open for further replies.
I recently bought a new motherboard, cpu and ram (450 m a pro max, ryzen 5 3600, corsair vengeance lpx 3200mhz 2x8gb) & now I'm getting a BSOD when trying to launch Windows from my ssd. So, now I'm trying to use my bootable USB to install a fresh version of Windows onto my ssd and everytime I click 'SanDisk partition 1' from the boot menu it just repeats itself and asks me to select a boot device straight away. This is really frustrating!! Any help?

Also, the error on the BSOD on the ssd boot

Sorry but your pic is the wrong way around and without laying down we can`t make any sense of it.

Try doing a reset from within Windows itself, this will completely reinstall Windows for you "how to" here use the Remove everything option.

If the above works out;

As soon as Windows has been installed you must install the latest chipset drivers for the MB as the chipset is what enables the board to be able to communicate with all the other hardware, after the chipset drivers you install the storage/SATA drivers and then the GPU drivers.

Please note that chipset drivers for new MBs must be installed from either the installation disk that shipped with the MB or direct from the MBs download centre, if you do not do this Windows update may download and install the wrong drivers and cause you no end of trouble.

Hi, sorry about that, haha. But I can't get into windows! It shows 'loading windows' and without the bar even moving like it used to, it quickly shows BSOD.

That has all the hallmarks of either incorrect drivers or Windows corruption.

Let`s clear the decks so we know exactly what we are dealing with then.

Was the Windows OS that is installed on the Sandisk device cleanly installed and fully working with this new B450M-A Pro Max motherboard and you have suddenly started getting BSOD.

I'm not sure you see, I installed the motherboard, cpu, ram all at the same time.

There lays your problem then and as per my reply #5;

You are getting the BSOD because Windows is trying to load the drivers for the previous MB with the new MB.

A new MB means a clean install of Windows and for two reasons **

Once Windows ha been installed before doing anything else you must install the chipset drivers for the MB, the SATA/storage device drivers for any SSD and/or HDD followed by the drivers for any add on GPU that may be present, these steps are a must and have to be done before Windows is allowed to check for updates as it has a habit of downloading the wrong drivers on you.

Second reason is down to the Windows product key, ever since Windows 8 the Microsoft servers have stored the licence key and corresponding MB details on their servers, this means that should a user ever need to do a clean install the servers check that the licence key and MB details correspond and if they do the user does not need to enter a product key number, if the MB and licence key do not match the user gets asked for a new product key, see my canned info below;

Unless your present product key is the full retail version you cannot use it with a new MB as an OEM product key is tied to the original MB it was paired with, to use an OEM key with a new MB is detected by the Microsoft servers as software piracy and therefore you get on screen warnings etc..

Exceptions to the above are 1: If your MB is replaced under warranty and 2: If your MB is replaced out of warranty with an alternative type but same brand due to the original model no longer being available, an upgraded MB however will require the purchase of a new OS licence.

If you have a full retail disk and a product key that is not in use on another computer the OEM restriction/s is/are not the same.

** It is possible to uninstall the previous MB drivers while the drive is still in that PC, the Windows licence key info provided remains the same though so the workaround is not worth the hassle.

Thanks for all your help, I gave up with win7 and managed to download a win10 iso with rufus and USB boot that way. Strange that it wouldn't accept my win7 boot though!

Thanks for all your help, I gave up with win7

The two of us need taking to task here Kiejac9 :LOL:

Levity apart, I incorrectly assumed that because this is a new build + you mentioned having Windows on USB that it was Windows 10 on the SSD not Windows 7, doh :(

Strange that it wouldn't accept my win7 boot though!

Not at all as the OS has no bearing on this it is purely down to drivers, had you mentioned in your OP that it was a Windows 7 install from another computer we would have approached things differently, we may have been able to get you into Safe Mode were you could have uninstalled the drivers for the previous MB, restarted and then installed the drivers for the new board, this would have also given you time to get the PC up and running, Windows 10 fully up to date and the opportunity to get yourself a new Windows 10 licence key, by the by now, glad you got it sorted and thanks for taking time out to come back and let us know that you no longer required assistance with it (y)

You are welcome btw :)
