The Acer Revo One RL85 is now available in the US, the PC manufacturer said in a statement. The sleek PC will feel equally at home in your living room nestled in your home entertainment center or in a modern office space with its glossy white finish and compact frame.

Acer is making the Revo One RL85 available in various configurations. The dual-core 1.40 GHz Intel Celeron 2957U starts at $249 (£167, AU$327), while stepping up to the maximum 2.20 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 5200U Broadwell processor configuration will set you back $579 (£388, AU$760).

The compact 4.19 x 4.19 x 6.1-inch (10.64 x 10.64 x 15.49cm) dimensions means the Revo One RL85 won't take up much space. The Revo One has a smaller footprint than the 7.7-inch (19.7cm) square base of the competing Mac Mini ($499, £335 or AU$655) , but it is taller than the 1.4-inch (3.6cm) height of Apple's compact desktop.

Although Acer is marketing the PC as a home media center unit given its dynamic HD 7.1 surround sound delivery and dual-display support, these features also make it a good companion to connect to a 4K HDTV and a 4K2K UHD monitor in a small office or home office.

"Tiny in size, but big in capabilities, the Revo One RL85 offers powerful RAID storage capabilities, superb audio and dual monitor support in a compact, easy to use device," Frank Chang, Acer America Senior Director of Stationary Product Management, said in a statement.

Configurations

All configurations of the Revo One RL85 come with both HDMI and Mini DisplayPort. There is an SD card slot on the top for quick access, LED status indicator lights, two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports on the rear.

Configurations start with 2GB RAM, and the more expensive Intel Broadwell configurations come with 8GB. For storage, the cheaper builds come with a 60GB solid state drive, while the pricier Intel Core i3 or Core i5 models come with a 1TB hard drive to store your files. Some models will come with support for up to two additional hot swappable HDDs, which can be configured to RAID 0, 1 and 5.

The Broadwell configurations also come with an integrated Intel HD 5500 graphics, which should give the Revo One similar graphics performance as the Lenovo ThinkPad T450s that we recently reviewed.

Acer also includes the Acer Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) so you can turn your Revo One into a personal cloud and access your files from your PC while you're away. This way, you wouldn't have to rely on a dedicated cloud storage service, like Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, but your Revo One would have to be powered on and connected to a network for BYOC access to work.

The Revo One will compete in the compact desktop market that includes the Alienware Alpha ($499, £335 or AU$655) and the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 ($419, £280 or AU$550). It will also compete against more inexpensive Chromebox and Chromebase models.
