Solved Brand new PC build not working (possibly CPU?)

Hey fam. This forum is always super helpful to me and I appreciate the work ya'll do replying to threads to help etc. I've built my personal PC from scratch a year ago and it works fine. I wouldn't say I'm an expert by any means, but I decided to build a mid-budgetish PC for my brother for Christmas and I'm having some issues.

Here are the specs:
Corsair 4000D Airflow MidTower ATX Case
MSI Performance Gaming AMD Ryzen 2nd and 3rd Gen AM4 M.2 (B450 Gaming Plus Max) MOBO
GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6 GB
Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 8GB 3200MHz Performance Memory Module - PVS48G320C6 (x2)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6-Core 3.9GHZ AM4 Processor
Thermaltake Smart Series 600W SLI / CrossFire Ready Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
WD Blue 1TB internal solid state

The issue: Turned the PC on for the first time after installing everything, the lights turn on and the fans start spinning and the power stays on. There's a red light indicator on the MOBO showing an issue with the CPU. The CPU fan is in the correct fan slot on the motherboard. When I removed the heatsink to resit the CPU, the CPU was stuck on the heatsink and I don't think that's a good thing. I tried inspecting it for broken pins and there doesn't appear to be any... But there are a few pins that look 'irregular' almost as if they are darker in color. Is it possible it fried upon starting the PC? But what would cause that? Is there anything that is glaringly obvious that I'm missing? Any help at all would be MUCH appreciated.

I have all of the cables connected properly, I've followed the MOBO's manual to make sure the memory is installed in the correct slots as I've read sometime that light means the CPU is not operating because there's an issue with the ram, but I've tested the ram in my own PC and it runs fine.

Thanks so much

Hello

It sounds like there wasn't a good air flow and or not enough cpu paste.. At any rate it sounds like the cpu may be fried...

Let's get some more opinions..

@Bruce @PeterOz
Thanks so much! I do agree that it could be the CPU, because there was a slight burnt smell. But I am hoping to get some clarity on what could have happened, I can go buy another CPU and put it in there but I'm worried about the same thing. I don't think it could have been air flow because the PC was never turned on for more than a minute, as the motherboard immediately showed a possible issue with the CPU. What could have instantly fried it? Could I have put the heatsink on too tight and that caused an issue? I have no idea..

No not good

a short

Also could be the wrong bios version
I do not like to flash a bios unless I really have to.

Think about downloading the bios for the model cpu
Flash the bios.
Make sure you use the correct usb port.
Or if you want to check first
remove from case and sit MB on a bit or cardboard and test

Hey!

I just wanted to let you know that you were on the money for the second part. I did happen to figure it out before your response but the MOBO came outdated and didn't have support for my Ryzen 5600. I needed to update the BIOS using the USB flash feature, and after that I was able to boot the PC. Thanks for the help!
