I have a 5 year old windows 7 pc with an integral Ethernet controller on the motherboard. A Lightening strike took out router and the Ethernet hardware / chip. I bought and installed a usb Wi-fi dongle to connect to my replaced router as I had no wish to replace the motherboard
I am struggling with the following.
When I boot up, the Ethernet controller tries to load but fails, understandably. I plug in the Wi-fi dongle and the Wi-fi controller loads beautifully and all is well. However I can’t make it boot up with the dongle plugged in and automatically load the Wi-fi controller. After the normal boot up, I have to briefly physically withdraw the dongle and replace it for the pc to recognise it and then it’s fine. It works beautifully until I switch off and then next time I have to do it all again
Any clues on how I can make it automatically boot up with the Wi-fi dongle active, rather than having to pull it out and replace it each time
thanks in advance
