Solved blank screen frozen pc using internet explorer

I have searched forums for the answer to this problem but I have never found the same scenario. When I try to go online I am getting a blank coloured screen. It can be any colour. There is nothing on the screen at all. No icons, no ie menus, nothing. I therefore have to reboot. In the last week I have tried switching to Google chrome and it seemed to work for a few days. Now I am getting this problem as soon as I click on chrome icon or try to open a page on ice. Similar problems listed informs always have something on screen but as I say I have nothing.

The pc I am using was an old unit pc they gave to staff. I don't know what the it department did before letting it go but the pc says that windows 7 may be counterfeit and I don't get windows updates. Can anyone help?

Welcome to PCHF frales,

The pc I am using was an old unit pc they gave to staff. I don't know what the it department did before letting it go but the pc says that windows 7 may be counterfeit and I don't get windows updates. Can anyone help?
Not being able to update and getting the counterfeit warning suggests that you have a version of Windows that is licenced specifically to the company from where you obtained the computer, this type of Windows install are done using what is called volume licence keys, they are not transferable and before giving you the computer the hard drive should have either been removed or at the very minimum formatted.

You need to get yourself a legitimate version of Windows and product key and then do a clean install, this should resolve the issue/s that you are having.

In case you are not aware, not being able to update Windows puts you at risk of malware attack so you may want to stay offline until you have a legit version of Windows installed and activated.
