Solved bios won't detect keyboard unless mouse is also plugged in, but still doesn't detect inputs

I just took an old computer I got from an extended family member out of storage after a couple years and have been trying to get it to work recently. It didn't work well before it was put in storage (randomly shut down, booting issues), and I had some free time now so I decided I'd try and work on it. It boots up and requires me to enter BIOS, but doesn't recognize my keyboard. At this point I have inly my keyboard plugged in adn try every USB port, with no results. It is not detected. So for some reason I also try to plug a mouse in as well to see if it can detect the mouse. (both the mouse and keyboard work on my primary computer). Now, with the mouse and keyboard plugged in, it says it detects both, and the lights on the keyboard are green. HOWEVER, it doesn't detect any keystrokes I make, even though it says it has detected the keyboard. I've been trying to find reasons online and no one really has this problem, maybe its a PS problem or a USB port problem, but I doubt every single one of the ports that I tried have gone bad. I am so confused right now, any help is appreciated. Bless and have a nice day.

make/model of keyboard and mouse?
USB, PS/2 or wireless devices?

make/model of PC and motherboard?
age?

with both mouse and keyboard connected, and when you are in BIOS, keystrokes are recognised then?
Keyboard is an old Lenovo I got at Goodwill, and mouse is a T7 cheap gaming mouse. Both USB.

PC parts are listed here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/blacktron16/saved/#view=WMhgt6
It is an Intel i7 build with an ASUS ROG MB
I got it used so I don't have a ton of information about it

When both mouse and keyboard are connected the screen says "1 mouse detected" and "1 keyboard detected", and the lights on both the mouse and keyboard light up. HOWEVER it is not recognize any input from either, and thus I cannot press F1 to enter BIOS. It won't boot Windows either because the person who had it before me or I might've uninstalled it to try to fix other problems. So I'm stuck at a page that requires me to select my boot options, but I can't because I can't enter BIOS.

I'm going to keep on troubleshooting this tonight, trying different USB devices and seeing if it's a SSD problem (I was bale to get into BIOS once when there was no SSD plugged in) by switching power and SATA cables and ports.

pretty sure the build is from 2013, so the parts might just be showing their age. If I can get this thing chugging tho that'd be great, I need a project right now to keep me sane lol.

Anyways, thanks for the response, I'll keep this thread updated if I manage to get something different.

any chance you can get your hands on another mouse/keyboard - friend, family, neighbours etc?
despite those devices working on your normal PC, there may be some weird incompatibility issue happening. (unlikely but hey!)

if your memory is correct and you did get into BIOS once by tweaking things around, you may want to try and remove all hardware out of the case and re-set it up on a piece of cardboard on the floor or table.

it'll be a great opportunity to clean things up, double check the cables and reseat components.
also, keep it simple for starters - just connect the bare minimum, at this stage you just want the thing to boot into BIOS and recognise the boot device and keyboard/mouse. so just one memory stick, no DVD unit, no graphics card if it has an add-on one.

UPDATE: problem was solved, retried connections later and had a different boot problem, after unplugging and replugging a lot of stuff in, it booted. Thanks for the help all that replied.
