Bios Update ???

Ok so I have a Dell desktop with Windows 7, that I've been primarily using to stream music & video. I use a 40 inch led tv as a monitor. And the whole thing is just like a giant entertainment hub. I've had this set up for nearly 4 years now without any issue..... But lately it's been crashing & rebooting after a few hours. And today it crashed twice within 1 hr.

Initially I know it crashed because I moved the entire system from one area to another & I interrupted the fan, which effected the start up for a few days. But that corrected itself. But now the system crashes after a few hours but immediately reboots, with no error. [Since I only use it for streaming online]. But I can expect it to crash & reboot at least once a day. But now Ive noticed that when it crashes there's an error message that mentions the Bios file may need to be updated.

I'm somewhat familiar with Bios files & I know doing an update may do more harm than good. I previously had a Dell laptop that needed a bios update, but I completely scrapped it because I didnt figure it out soon enough, and the laptop could no longer hold a charge long enough to download & install the file. So I replaced it with this desktop for more stability. I even use a hardline for internet. But my issue now is deciding whether or not Updating the Bios file is the right move to make.

Again the system crashes & immediately reboots, so it's all of a 30 second inconvenience after running for 10 to 12 hours. So I was thinking, maybe I could just power down more often, which I neglect to do sometimes. And it'll correct itself. I tend to just turn the monitor off & leave the system running day & night. I know that's not good. And that may be the real issue.

And I think a Bios Update might be too risky on such a relatively old system.

I have Windows 7 running on a BIOS version 2.6.4

I'm not even so sure if thats even an outdated version or not. But Id love some input on what you guys think I should do.

(this is a screenshot from a vista machine)

So that we have a comparison to Speedfan, download, run and grab a screenshot of HWMonitor (free).

Hope you don't mind me butting in here but as you have moved your machine just prior to this issue it might be prudent to check all your connections using this guide Malnutrition often recommends as well as supplying the info requested in the previous post.

Also curious about a fan issue correcting itself???????

I definitely will try that Gus. I've already checked all of my connections. But it was a rushed job. I'm going to be more thorough when I attempt to work on it tomorrow.

Also curious about a fan issue correcting itself??????

When I initially tried to boot it after I moved it, I kept receiving fan errors. And it wouldn't start properly. And the fan was not working at all. But after a few minutes & unplugging, cleaning & rebooting again, the fan started working and my system booted properly. That was a few months ago. I haven't had that issue since.

I'm not really sure what the issue is now.
But I wanted to give as much info as I had, to get some input before I attempt the Bios Update. That's why I mentioned the fan issue. I thought that might be a contributing factor to my machine crashing now. Even though it happened months ago.

If you have any other ideas, I'll greatly appreciate it.
