BIOS not recognising HDD

OS: windows 7
Motherboard: MSI A75MA-G55 (bios ver. E7696AMS V1.5)

Just a brief summary of what's going on. My partner unplugged his sata hdd yesterday while he was fiddling inside the computer (power off, all leads disconnected). When plugged back in and booted up the computer is unable to load the hdd.
I've looked further into it and bios does not read the hdd.

-All bios settings seem fine.
-Checked that the sata port works.
-Cable works.
-Has been unplugged and re-plugged in firmly (multiple times) and I can hear hdd drive running when booted.
-I created a windows 7 repair disc using my PC, however since his PC cannot read the hdd, the repair function on the disc can't locate a hdd to repair.
-Hdd not dead as my pc bios recognises it, however won't start up (pc suggests it's due to a change in hardware). Unable to open in safe mode or last successful boot.
-Can access repair/recovery options via my PC.
-Tried startup repair = failed x4. Root cause: "unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem." Repair action: "system files integrity check and repair. Error code 0x490"
-Memory diagnostic = no problems detected
-Can access command prompt through recovery options. Commands used:
chkdsk (completed, however it finished very quickly and only read a very small size "3086kb total disk space" which is not what I've seen it do on my working hdds), bootrec/fixmbr (completed successfully), bootrec/fixboot (completed successfully), bootrec/scanos (completed successfully, 0 identified windows installations).

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas on what to do next. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My next steps were to do a system restore or rebuild the boot function. But I have doubts that the restore will make any difference and I don't know how to rebuild the boot function.

I have now tested 2 working windows 10 hdds in the PC, and neither of those will recognise either. Does this suggest a serious motherboard or bios issue?
Re-installing windows on the hdd would be a last resort and I'd like to see if a professional could save any data beforehand.

I hate to be brash, but this motherboard has some very bad reviews. This would point to a hardware fault.

If the motherboard can recognize that the drives exist but can't actually boot from anything, that indicates a very serious problem with the motherboard itself

I've assumed you've plugged these 2 W10 back into their original machines to verfiy they're indeed working properly and that the problem PC didn't cause any harm to them? Have you reset the BIOS settings to default and see if a bad setting is causing this?

The PC that's having the issues (MSI motherboard) isn't recognising any of the hdds at all. I've tried returning the bios settings to default and it hasn't solved the problem.

I've cross checked with another PC to confirm that the W10's still boot up fine afterwards, and the W7 hdd that is having issues is recognised in the bios of the good PC but not bootable.
